*5th ANNIVERSARY DEMO FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF NIMA-MAAMOBI DRAINAGE (GUTTER)*
*MY NARROW ESCAPE*

Exactly five (5) years ago today 18 November 2013 when I together with other youth led Nima-maamobi youth as CONCERN YOUTH interested in the completion of NIMA-MAAMOBI drainage (gutter) that cause alot of inhabitants homeless.

*MEETING WITH THE MP*
-------------------------
The youth after several attempts to get the member of parliament Hon. Mustapha Ahmed to discuss the issue of the drainage were all in VAIN.The MP gave us series of excuses and also made us to organise meetings which he never turn up. The more reason why we opted for the demonstration.
On the part of Hon. Nazer toure. He was willing to help us but because he was just elected into office at that time he had no idea of how or where to start from.

*MEETING WITH THE POLICE*

On the 18th of October, 2013 we wrote to the police as required by law on our intended demo. We had series of meetings with the Nima divisional police command, kotobabi district police command and even the the Regional police command which lasted for two weeks. We resolved with the police after several days of meeting to have an internal route and end it with a press conference at the drainage site. But on the eve of the demonstration, the deputy regional commander called us to cancell our demo but it is too late since we can't inform all the youth in the community and the media houses we invited so we carried on with our peaceful demonstration.

*THE DEMO DAY*

On that faithful day, we gathered at the drainage site and started with the demo with some police es**rt from the Nima police station and following the agreed route peacefully. In the middle of the demo, a group of police believe to have come from the central police station disrupted our peaceful demo unprofessionally.
I got a big and deep cut on my head and several shocks from the police shocker. The policeman who tried to arrest me also got a cut on his hand because we ( I and the policeman) entered into a door made of glass together during the arrest. The Nima police commander asked of our release and was rush to the police hospital for treatment.

*THE MEDIA*

The Accra regional police commander (COP TETTEH Yohunor) after visiting us at the hospital requested for my name and ask the policeman who also got hurt weather I was holding any object with me during the arrest, he said no. That is the only thing he asked of us and left.
But the next day 19th November, 2013 on the front page of the Ghanaian times news paper comes a caption"MOHAMMED HADI STAB POLICEMAN" bluntant lie, a falacy and and a concorted allegation from the senior police officer and the Ghanaian times news paper.

*THE GRACE*

Finally two years after the demo, the president (fmr. President John Dramani Manama) cut the sod for the completion of the Nima-maamobi drainage on Monday 16th November, 2015.

*THE UNCOMPLETED NIMA-MAAMOBI DRAINAGE (GUTTER) CAUSING MORE HARM THAN GOOD*

The construction of Nima-Maamobi drainage which was started by the late president Prof. Evans Atta Mills and continue by president John Dramani after the demo to help the people of Nima-Maamobi have access route and to prevent the out break of cholera and other diseases is now causing more harm than good.
The uncompleted nature of the drainage has stagnant water and heap rubbish thrown by our very own people which is causing more harm than good. I will not be surprised if an out break of cholera and malaria hit this two great towns.

*FIVE (5) YEARS AFRTER*

Information gathered strongly indicate that the current President Nana Addo and is able vice president Dr. Mahamud Bawumia have the construction of the Nima-Maamobi drainage at heart and preparations are underway.
But am sorry to say we can't wait for the unexpected to happen before we start doing something, "if it must be done, it must be done NOW"

OPENING ADDRESS BY THE HEAD OF STATE FOR REPUBLIC OF SENEGAL
H.E. MOHAMMED HADI ABDALLAH

The Executive Chairman, Heads of States, Vice Head of States, H.E First lady of Senegal, honourable Delegates, invited guests, the Media, ladies and gentlemen.

It is with great humility and pride that I and my delegation accept the call to represent the good people of Senegal entering into the 3rd edition of the Model Ecowas Summit.
The Republic of Senegal has resolutely engaged a policy aimed at scaling up its structuring infrastructures. With regard to its strong will to promote local and international private investments as a pillar of the development strategy adopted by the Authorities,
Senegal has chosen, as part of this new policy, a liberal economy mechanism strongly committed to Public-Private Partnership (PPP) as infrastructure financing mechanism.
Mr. Chairman, In the 21st century food security, has gotten more consideration from the worldwide group
because of the global food crisis in 2008 and the commonness of food insecurity over the globe, especially in West Africa. The West African sub-region, because of ECOWAS'
activities and responsibilities, has consequently attempted endeavours to address
the issue through the appropriation of the ECOWAS Agricultural Policy (ECOWAP). Under the ECOWAP policy, member states must fit their national farming agricultural policies and
strategies for usage.

Mr. Chairman, in 2011, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) adopted a Policy on

Science and Technology (ECOPOST). Enhancing governance, quickening financial and money related integration and cultivating public– private organizations, advance proficient, viable small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and to open conventional agribusiness to present day innovation, entrepreneurship and technology, with a specific end goal to enhance efficiency. However, ECOWAS nations still have far to go to achieve the African Union's
objective of giving 1% of GDP to gross domestic expenditure on research and development.
Mr. Chairman, to achieve the highest economic growth in West Africa and to raise the standard of living in member states, entrepreneurship and investments for business growth as well as job
creation should be encouraged in member states. The creation of new businesses is a key element
for dynamism of modern economies. Creating a conducive business environment is important for the expansion of young innovative businesses. This include sound fiscal and monetary policies, structural policies which determine the overall economic frame work in which the business sector operates. Regulatory and administrative burdens on small businesses should be kept low so as to encourage the youth in member states to build small businesses. Developing an entrepreneurial culture and fostering entrepreneurial attitudes and values in the citizens, especially the youth will help develop the economy. All these can be achieved through education
and training.
Mr. Chairman, Senegal expresses hope that “A New West African Economy” can be created when various opportunities like the effective use of technology, and equipping the youth with the necessary skills in agribusiness and entrepreneurship. Senegal therefore recommends that

member states come together and make use of the opportunities raised because this will help
promote the transformation of ECOWAS from “ECOWAS of States” to “ECOWAS of the People”.
As a regional integration, it is no doubt that The ECOWAS has been influential in laying a formidable foundation for our economic development and cohesion. Based on this strong cohestion and foundation, I believe, the timing is now right to have
“A NEW WEST-AFRICAN OWNED ECONOMY, Setting the agenda for new opportunities as this years theme expressess. I am particulary excited and filled with much optimism and hope that an ECOWAS beyond aid is imminent in that we are in unison to create and offer our own opportunities and make them happen.
Mr. Chairman, I and my team of delegates are ready to create, challenge, and debate; The policy of transforming ECOWAS from “ECOWAS of state” to “ECOWAS of people”. Sensitize government and stakeholders on the need to integrate people, systems
and technologies to drive the sustainable development. Promote and support initiatives of programs promoting entreprenuership in West
Africa focusing on generating opportunities for the youth and increasing wealth creation.
I look forward to having an eventful summit which will be captured in history as an
indelibe step in a new era of African development and opportunities.
