EXCELLENCE XXIII

Proverbs 12:26a
“The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour.”

On this side of heaven, there are three kinds of people: those who underperform, those who merely perform, and those who continually outperform themselves. The believer belongs to the latter. The believer is made for more.

The believer is more excellent than his neighbour is simply a call to do more; love more, serve more, deliver more, influence more and impact more. When Jesus Christ said, “Greater works than these will we do,” He simply meant we will do more. In any given instance, believers should be found and seen doing more.

The way of excellence demands that we continually outperform ourselves, smash our own records, exceed our own targets and break our own limits. Let’s do more.

EXCELLENCE XXII

Proverbs 12:26a
“The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour.”

In other translations, the verse above is rendered, “The righteous is a guide to his neighbours.” A guide is a leader, a teacher, a standard, and a reference point.

Believers have been called to uphold a standard of excellence in righteousness. In comparison, believers are expected to be more excellent in their dealings than others. Our conduct must be near perfect if we will ever stand the chance of leading a generation. It is a call to mentor and inspire a generation.

Our pursuit of excellence should be in hope that in our light, many will see light. If we will inspire a generation, our desire for excellence should never expire.

Declaration
My life will inspire a generation in Jesus’ name.

EXCELLENCE XXI

Psalm 16:3 (KJV)
“But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight.”

According to the Scriptures, one of the things that gives God pleasure is excellence. God delights in the excellence of the saints. The Hebrew word translated excellent in the verse above means famous, gallant, glorious, and mighty.

When a believer becomes famous, the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ gains publicity. When a believer becomes gallant, the gospel gains more mileage. When a believer becomes mighty, territories will be taken for Christ. When the life of a saint becomes glorious, it gives the gospel pe*******on.

We do not pursue excellence merely to become great; we pursue excellence so that the greatness of our God can be revealed through us.

DECLARATION
My life is pleasing to the Lord. I demonstrate excellence in Jesus’ name.

EXCELLENCE XX

Psalm 8:9 (KJV)
“O LORD our God, how excellent is thy name in all the earth.”

God’s name is excellent in all the earth, not some. He maintains the same persona irrespective of geography bias. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever means, the core of His values remain unchanged despite a rapidly changing world.

One of the strongest pillars of excellence is hinged on maintaining a consistent image. Global brands associated with excellence strive to maintain same quality, service delivery and customer experience across borders—continents, cities and cultures.

The believer must be excellent by maintaining the same image and personality irrespective of where they find themselves—inside and outside church.

DECLARATION
I put on the image and badge of Christ. This is my reality in Jesus’ name.

EXCELLENCE XVI

Daniel 6:3 (KJV)
“Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.”

The king thought, he planned, he considered, he intended to set Daniel over the entire kingdom. The king had not yet made it verbal; he was still nursing the idea based on what he had observed.

When you understand that people are watching you and planning their next move based on what they are seeing, excellence becomes non-negotiable. Think about social media: many see but few like, many like but few comment.

Excellence is therefore an everyday obsession because you just can’t tell who is watching.
