Real safeguarding work doesn't happen in theory; it happens in the room, in the hard conversations.

That's what we saw recently at Vivie's Dance and Theatre Academy, when our team facilitated a Child Protection and Safeguarding training. Staff didn't just learn policy; they brought their own experiences to the table, working through real situations they'd faced and thinking through, together, how to respond when it matters most.

Through these conversations, we worked alongside VDTA to strengthen their internal safeguarding policies, ensuring every child in their care is protected by clear, actionable standards.

🚨 CHILD SAFETY ALERT 🚨

Child Rights International (CRI) Ghana has become aware of a viral video showing a child, appearing to be about 10-12 years old, drinking an alcoholic beverage (Smirnoff Ice) alongside an adult in a public setting, while being filmed. The account associated with sharing this video has been identified as .

This is a clear act of child endangerment and a violation of the child's right to protection under the Children's Act, 1998 (Act 560) and Ghana's broader child protection framework. Exposing a child to alcohol, let alone filming and circulating it for public consumption, puts that child at risk of physical harm, psychological harm, and further exploitation as the video spreads online.

We are calling on:

📌 Cyber Security Authority Ghana to investigate the circulation of this video online, including the account , and identify those responsible for filming and sharing it.

📌 Ghana Police Service to open an investigation into the adults present in the video for child endangerment/neglect, and to identify and safeguard the child involved.

📌 Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to locate the child, conduct a welfare check, and provide any necessary protective and psychosocial support.

Children cannot consent to being filmed in situations that harm them. Every adult in that frame (the one who gave her the drink and the one who filmed instead of intervening) failed that child.

CRI Ghana will follow up publicly on any response or action taken.

Before they tie their shoes, they’re already tuning into screens. 📱

Recent data shows that children aged 3–6 spend 2 to 5 hours a day on screens, much of it watching cartoons and videos or playing games, with only a small portion devoted to educational content.

As these devices become an early fixture in childhood, it raises an important question: How do we balance screen time with real-world milestones?
