JAMAICAN HEALTH DELEGATION PAY WORKING VISIT TO THE COUNCIL

A delegation from Jamaica’s Ministry of Health and Wellness paid a working visit to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation and gain insight into Ghana’s nursing regulatory systems and healthcare training framework.

The visit, which took place at the Council’s headquarters in Accra, formed part of a familiarization tour aimed at fostering collaboration between the two countries in the areas of nursing education, professional regulation, and healthcare delivery.

The Jamaican delegation was warmly received by the Chair-person of the 16th governing board, Dr. Mary A. Opare, some members of the board, management and staff of the council. The Registrar took the visitors through a presentation comprising of the Council’s mandate, operations, licensing procedures, and quality assurance mechanisms for nursing and midwifery practice in Ghana.

Also in attendance to welcome the team were the Rector and team from Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives (GCNM) and the Principal and Staff of the Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Pantang.

Speaking during the engagement, Jamaica’s Minister of Health and Wellness, Hon. Christopher Tufton, commended Ghana for the strides made in nursing education and professional regulation. He noted that the visit would provide valuable lessons that could support ongoing reforms and improvements within Jamaica’s healthcare sector.

The Registrar of the Council, Mrs. Philomina Woolley, highlighted the importance of international partnerships in advancing healthcare standards and promoting knowledge sharing. She stated that the partnership would help build resilient healthcare systems and ensure the highest standards in nursing and midwifery practice.
