BIG PUSH UPDATE

🚧SUAME INTERCHANGE PROJECT 🚧

Phase 2 of the Suame Interchange Project is currently 87 percent complete and is expected to be opened to traffic by the end of October this year.

This was announced by the Hon. Kwame Agbodza, this afternoon, during an inspection of the project as part of his working tour of the Ashanti Region.

Phase 2 includes the construction of three overpasses at Anomangye Junction (completed), Magazine New Road Junction (completed), and Abusuakruwa Junction (98.25 percent complete).

The Phase 2 also involves the widening of the Offinso Road (N10) into a 2 Ă— 3-lane dual carriageway, which is currently 77 percent complete. In addition, 13.2 Km out of the planned 15 kilometres of local roads have been completed, alongside improvements to selected intersections.

The completion and opening of Phase 2 is expected to improve traffic flow in the area and pave the way for intensive work on Phase 1.

The scope of the Phase 1 includes the construction of a three-tier interchange at Suame, two overpasses at Abrepo and Krofrom junctions, and the widening of the Eastern and Western Bypass roads.

BIG PUSH UPDATE:

🚧 RECONSTRUCTION OF THE JINIJINI–SAMPA ROAD (80KM) 🚧

The reconstruction of the Jinijini–Sampa Road, being undertaken under the government's Big Push initiative, is progressing steadily.

The overall physical progress of work currently stands at 14 percent.

The project commenced in January 2026 and is expected to be completed in January 2028.

Ongoing works include earthworks and pavement construction, bush clearing, scarification, shaping and compaction, road widening and fill to formation, sub-base and crushed stone base, drainage works, and culvert construction.

Earlier today, Hon Kwame Agbodza inspected the project as part of his working tour of the Bono Region.

During the inspection, the Minister commended the contractor, Rango Construction Company Limited, for the quality of work delivered and urged the company to accelerate the pace of works to ensure the project is completed on schedule.

🚧 REHABILITATION OF THE SUNYANI–ATRONIE–ACHERENSUA ROAD (48 KM) 🚧

The rehabilitation of the Sunyani–Atronie–Acherensua road is progressing steadily, with the project currently at 33 percent physical completion.

Works commenced in September 2025 and are scheduled for completion in September 2027.

Earlier today, Hon. Kwame Agbodza inspected the project as part of his working visit to the Bono Region.

The Minister expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and urged the contractor, M/S Alexiboam Company Limited, to sustain the current momentum to ensure the project is delivered on schedule.

🚧 THE ACCRA–TEMA MOTORWAY AND EXTENSION PROJECT 🚧

🚧 Construction of Section 1: Tema Roundabout–Tetteh Quarshie Interchange (19.5 km) 🚧

The 19.5-kilometre Accra–Tema Motorway Project is about 50% complete, with the contractor assuring that the project will be delivered within the agreed timeline.

To date, the contractor, MARIPOMA ENTERPRISE LIMITED, has constructed retaining walls, bridge abutments, box and bridge culverts, U-drains, and footbridges. Sub-base construction, earthworks, and maintenance of the existing road are also ongoing.

These updates were disclosed yesterday by the Project Engineer, Ing. Kwabena Bempong, when the Roads and Highways Minister, Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, inspected the project.

Hon. Agbodza urged the contractor to intensify work by operating day and night to ensure that the project is completed on schedule.

The Minister commended the contractor for the progress made since his last visit, noting that activity on site had increased.

“We are hopeful that we can still complete this project on schedule because the motoring public cannot understand why they have to endure these inconveniences for such a long period. Please, endeavour to ensure that we meet the target,” he said.

🚧Bolgatanga–Bawku-Polimakom Road Project🚧

Contractors working on the Bolgatanga–Polimakom Road project are remobilising to site to resume work after construction stalled due to outstanding payments.

The 117.94-kilometre road project, which passes through Bolgatanga, Nabdam, Zebilla, Binduri, Bawku and Pusiga, was 67% complete when work halted.

President John Dramani Mahama inspected the project on Saturday as part of his Resetting Ghana tour of the Upper East Region. He assured the contractors of timely payments to facilitate the project’s completion on schedule.

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Agbodza, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the road project, alongside other initiatives under the Big Push programme in the region.

BIG PUSH UPDATE

President John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians that the government is expanding the Big Push Programme to include additional priority roads across the country.

Responding to growing calls from communities for more roads to be added to the initiative, President Mahama affirmed that scoping for Phase Two and even Phase Three is already underway.

Speaking during an inspection of the Navrongo–Chuchuliga–Tumu Road as part of his Resetting Ghana Tour of the Upper East Region, the President stated that the government’s broader objective is to connect all regional capitals with high-quality roads.

“Our intention is to link all the regional capitals to one another with good roads. In addition, some of the major districts will also receive road improvements,” he said.

“By the time we complete the entire Big Push programme in five years, I am sure everybody will be satisfied and everybody’s road will have been captured,” he added.

For his part, Roads Minister Kwame Agbodza said that upon completion of the Navrongo–Chuchuliga–Tumu road project, “the idea of a terrible road between Bolga and Wa would be completely resolved, and then everybody would know that this corridor is safe and passable.”

BIG PUSH UPDATE

🚧 Partial Reconstruction of Navrongo–Chuchuliga–Tumu Road (34.23km) incl. Navrongo–Chuchuliga–Sandema Road (16km) & Pwalugu–Paga Spur (699m) 🚧

Work on the partial reconstruction of the Navrongo- Chuchuliga- Tumu Road, including the Navrongo- Chuchuliga- Sandema Road and Pwalugu- Paga Spur is progressing steadily.

The project, being undertaken by MYTURN Limited is 25% complete and is slightly ahead of schedule.

When completed, the project will improve travel time and economic activities between the Upper East and Upper West Regions.

Progress of Work

On the Navrongo- Chuchuliga- Tumu Road, the contractor is undertaking embankment filling, sub-base and base works, widening of the carriageway and the construction of culvert and drainage systems.

The contractor has also largely completed primer seal works of 7.5km and first seal of 3.5km on the Chuchuliga- Sandema Road.

On the Pwalugu- Paga stretch, the contractor has completed sub-base, base and primer seal works.

BIG PUSH UPDATE:

The Volta Region is on track to deliver the first fully completed road project under the Big Push, with several works already well advanced.

The rehabilitation of the Penyi–Denu Road is 75.68% complete, and the rehabilitation of Kpetoe–Ave Afiadenyigba (Lot 7) is 45% complete.

Hon. Kwame Agbodza disclosed this yesterday during President Mahama’s inspection of some road projects in the Volta Region as part of his Resetting Ghana tour.

President Mahama noted that about 2,500 km of roads are currently under construction nationwide under the Big Push programme.

He expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and commended contractors for being ahead of schedule on several projects.

He noted that the government allocated more than GH¢13 billion in the programme’s initial phase and a further GH¢30.8 billion this year, bringing total commitments to over GH¢40 billion.

BIG PUSH UPDATE:

🚧 Construction of the Dambai Bridge (1.5 km) 🚧

The Government is undertaking an ambitious initiative under the Big Push Programme to construct two of the longest bridges spanning water bodies in Ghana’s history. These are the Afram Bridge (3.6 km) in the Eastern Region and the Dambai Bridge (1.5 km) in the Oti Region.

Last week, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, inspected ongoing works on the Dambai Bridge as part of his tour of the Oti Region.

The project commenced in January 2026 and is scheduled for completion in May 2029. Work on the project is progressing steadily.

Hon. Agbodza reiterated the Government’s commitment to completing the project on schedule and urged the contractor, Messrs Maripoma Enterprise Limited, to adhere strictly to the project timelines.

He noted that the bridge represents a strategic investment for the Oti Region, adding that it will enhance regional connectivity, facilitate the movement of people and goods, and stimulate socio-economic development in Dambai and its surrounding communities.
