COURTESY CALL BY THE INTERNATIONAL TRADE COUNCIL (ITC) AFRICA ON THE CHARGÉ D'AFFAIRES A.I. OF THE HIGH COMMISSION OF MALAYSIA IN ACCRA, GHANA

The Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the High Commission of Malaysia in Accra, Ghana, welcomed representatives from the International Trade Council (ITC) Africa at the High Commission's office. The delegation comprised Mr. Derrick D. Akubia, Executive Director, and Dr. Tristan Evans, Chief Economist.

During the visit, ITC Africa delivered an introductory presentation outlining their key initiatives. Both sides subsequently held constructive discussions on areas of mutual interest and agreed to foster meaningful collaboration across sectors beneficial to both parties.

The High Commission looks forward to continuing its engagement with ITC Africa to explore further opportunities.

🇲🇾🤝🇬🇭 Deepening Malaysia–Ghana Ties
The Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the High Commission of Malaysia had the honour of paying a courtesy call on the Hon. Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, Minister for the Interior of the Republic of Ghana, on 26 August 2026 in Accra.

The Honourable Minister, together with the Deputy Minister and senior security agency heads, accorded the Malaysian delegation an exceptionally warm welcome a true reflection of the strong bond between our two nations.

Discussions centred on strengthening cooperation in homeland security, border management, digital immigration technology, and capacity building under the spirit of South-South partnership.
As fellow members of the Commonwealth and the Non-Aligned Movement, Malaysia and Ghana share a commitment to peace, stability, and mutual progress. We look forward to elevating our partnership to even greater heights.

On August 18th, a strategic introductory meeting took place between the International Trade Council (ITC), the High Commission of Malaysia in Accra, and MATRADE Lagos.

The primary focus of this dialogue was the exploration of the vibrant West African market. By connecting Malaysian expertise with the growing economies of Ghana and Nigeria, we are identifying new sectors for investment, trade diversification, and long-term industrial partnerships.

This collaboration marks a significant step in bridging the gap between Southeast Asia and West Africa’s emerging markets.

Strengthening Ghana-Malaysia Strategic Partnerships: Akyeampong & Co and Fair Trade Ghana Network Visit Malaysia High Commission

The Chargé d'Affaires a.i. (CdA) of the High Commission of Malaysia recently received Mr. Joseph Akyeampong, Managing Partner of Akyeampong & Co, accompanied by Mr. Ray Snowden and Mr. Mafta of the Fair Trade Ghana Network (FTGN).

The primary objective of the visit was to explore deep-rooted cooperation between Ghana and Malaysia, specifically within the agricultural sector. The discussions highlighted opportunities for joint ventures, technology sharing, and the utilization of Malaysian expertise to advance agricultural processing in Ghana.

During the meeting, the FTGN delegation briefed the CdA a.i. on the role of GIRSAL (Ghana Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending), explaining how it functions as a de-risking and insurance mechanism to protect both farmers and international investors. Additionally, the parties discussed expanding trade opportunities in palm oil products, marking a significant step toward enhanced bilateral economic relations.

Strengthening Academic Ties between Malaysia and Ghana 🇬🇭🇲🇾

On 17th August 2026, the High Commission of Malaysia (CDA a.i.) was honored to welcome Dr. Agnes Khoo, a distinguished academic and lecturer for the AWLUC (Penang Campus), for a productive discussion on bilateral educational cooperation.

Dr. Khoo brings a wealth of global experience in international relations, sociology, and Asian studies, having taught in Malaysia, China, and most recently at Webster University Ghana.
