Erosion doesn't wait. Neither can we.

That was the energy at today's Heritage and Climate Change Symposium at the Cedi Conference Center, University of Ghana, where experts and young people got real about what's at stake for Ussher Fort, James Fort, Christiansborg Castle, Fort Vernon, Fort Augustaborg and Fort Fredensborg.

Under the Korea Ghana Heritage Project, a five year partnership, these six sites get a real shot at survival against climate threats.

The National Launch is 26 August.

This story is just getting started.

The UNESCO Library and Archives preserve the documentary heritage of an Organization founded on the belief that peace must be built through education, culture, sciences and information.

As UNESCO’s institutional memory, they safeguard decades of publications, records, photographs, films and archives that document the history of international cooperation and intellectual exchange. Their collections trace their origins to the legacy of the League of Nations and the International Institute for Intellectual Cooperation, preserving 80 years of UNESCO’s history.

Today, the UNESCO Library and Archives support research, institutional transparency and knowledge-based decision-making by ensuring access to reliable, preserved documentary sources. Through preservation, access services and international cooperation, they help maintain UNESCO’s knowledge as a global public good for researchers, Member States, staff and the wider public.

Because preserving memory helps inform the decisions of tomorrow.

World leaders have spent the past two weeks in Busan deciding the future of the world's heritage. The session wraps tomorrow.

Ghana already has sites on that list: our Forts and Castles along the coast, and the Asante Traditional Buildings in the Asanti Regions.

The Invitational Programme for Policy Makers under the Korea-Ghana Heritage Project has come to a close in the Republic of Korea, and it's been two weeks of real work behind the scenes.

Through lectures, policy discussions, and visits to conservation sites, the team worked to lay the foundation for the Heritage and that will assist Ghana to better protect the Forts and Castles World Heritage Property.

Gracing the closing ceremony was Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Ghana's Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Ambassador Choi Ko Jo, the first Korean Ghanaian to serve as Korea's Ambassador to Ghana and Prof. Osman Tahidu Damba, Secretary General of the Ghana Commission for UNESCO.

Grateful for this collaboration with the Republic of Korea, and looking forward to the next phase of this project.
