Hon. Gomashie Pays Condolence Visit to Family of Late Actress Beverly Avaglo

The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, paid a visit to the family of the late actress, Beverly Avaglo, during her one-week observance to commiserate with them on their loss.

Expressing her condolences on behalf of the Ministry and H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister described the late Beverly Avaglo as a member of the creative arts fraternity whose passing is deeply felt by all.

Hon. Gomashie urged all gathered to honour the memory of the late actress by embracing peace, unity and understanding, values she believes should guide the farewell accorded to her.

She assured the family of the Ministry’s support and expressed confidence that all arrangements being made to celebrate Beverly Avaglo’s life and legacy would be successful.

May her soul rest in perfect peace.

Afro-Gastro 2026 and Heritage Photography Competition Launched to Showcase Ghana’s Rich Cultural Heritage.

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has officially launched the 2026 Afro-Gastro Festival and National Heritage Photography Competition at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra.

The two flagship initiatives aim to celebrate Ghana’s rich culinary and cultural heritage, empower young creatives, and promote tourism, innovation and cultural preservation. While Afro-Gastro will showcase African cuisine, indigenous ingredients and culinary tourism opportunities, the Heritage Photography Competition will encourage young people aged 25 and below to capture and document Ghana’s unique cultural identity through photography.

The launch brought together government officials, development partners, creative industry players and tourism stakeholders, reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to leveraging culture, heritage and the creative economy as drivers of national development and Pan-African collaboration.

Korea Launches 2026 KOPIST High-Level Policy Forum on Regional Tourism Development

The Korea Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Tourism (KOPIST) High-Level Policy Forum has officially commenced in Sejong City, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization.

Held under the theme “Strategic Approaches to Regional Tourism Development,” the two-day forum gathers heads of delegation and tourism experts from ten partner countries alongside Korean stakeholders. The program features a keynote address, session presentations, and panel discussions led by global tourism leaders.

Among the international participants is Ghana’s delegation, headed by Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Yussif Issaka Jahjah, who joins fellow representatives in sharing insights on advancing sustainable regional tourism.

The forum runs through May 22, with outcomes expected to strengthen cooperation and shape future tourism development initiatives across participating nations.

HOTCATT and the High Commission of Malaysia in Ghana have strengthened their culinary collaboration to promote cultural exchange, enhance tourism ties, and equip hospitality professionals with world-class skills.m

Acting Executive Director of HOTCATT, Dr. Eric Afornorfe highlighted that the partnership is giving students practical exposure to Malaysian cooking techniques while showcasing Ghanaian cuisine on the global stage. The initiative also supports professional certification programmes and customer service training aimed at improving standards in Ghana’s hospitality industry.

The collaboration further opens opportunities in the growing global food market, creating new business and tourism prospects for Ghanaian enterprises.

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture & Creative Arts has held a Sector-Wide HR Heads Meeting in Accra, bringing together HR leaders from across its agencies to strengthen coordination, improve efficiency, and promote best practices in public service.

Director of HR, MoTCCA, Mr. Vitus Otto Langmagne, emphasized the importance of accurate staff data for payroll integrity, stronger collaboration among HR units, and prioritizing continuous training to enhance performance.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to capacity building and standardized HR practices to support a more responsive public service.

Tourism Minister Highlights Gwollu’s Cultural and Tourism Potential

Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie has highlighted the rich cultural and tourism potential of Gwollu and the wider Sissala West District during a visit to the mausoleum and family home of former President Hilla Limann as part of her familiarisation tour of the Upper West Region.

The visit showcased key heritage sites including the traditional bone-setting centre in Bullu, the sacred crocodile pond in Gwollu, the chief’s palace, and other historical landmarks that reflect the area’s cultural significance and tourism potential.

The Minister reaffirmed government’s commitment to preserving Dr. Hilla Limann’s legacy and developing Ghana’s heritage assets to boost domestic tourism and national pride.

Wiyaala Named Ghana’s Global Ambassador for fugu

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has named internationally acclaimed musician Wiyaala as Ghana’s Global Ambassador for Fugu during a colourful ceremony in Funsi, Upper West Region.

Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, praised Wiyaala for her long-standing dedication to promoting Ghanaian culture through music, fashion and performance, describing her as a symbol of hope, resilience and pride.

The Minister emphasized the importance of supporting made-in-Ghana products, noting that every thread woven into Fugu tells the story of Ghana’s identity and resilience while creating opportunities for weavers, designers and local entrepreneurs.

Receiving the honour, Wiyaala pledged to use her new role to project Ghanaian culture to the world and make the nation proud.
