On 24 August 1991, Ukraine declared its independence from the Soviet Union. This day serves as a reminder of Ukraine's enduring struggle for freedom and peace. Yesterday, 🇳🇴 Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre visited Kyiv to show solidarity with the people of Ukraine, honouring the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people. Ukraine’s fight for freedom, sovereignty and democracy is also a fight for Europe’s security and the principles of international law. Norway will for as long as it takes. 🇺🇦💙💛

Last Wednesday was the International Youth Day 2026, with this year's theme highlighting the shared aspirations of young people worldwide.

Norway is committed to advancing the rights of children and young people through strategic partnerships and investments that promote entrepreneurship, strengthen education systems, and expand access to quality education. We also believe that meaningful and inclusive participation of young people is essential to sustainable development.

To mark the day, we are sharing a throwback to Minister of International Development Åsmund Aukrust's visit to UNFPA-initiated Orange Loft and MEST Africa last year.🌍✨

Two weeks ago, our Deputy Head of Cooperation, Vivian Opsvik, participated in the African Union Extraordinary Summit on Health in Accra. African leaders discussed sustainable health financing, stronger and more resilient health systems, local production of medicines and vaccines, and progress towards universal health coverage across the continent. The summit concluded with the adoption of a declaration aimed at accelerating implementation of the AU health roadmap towards 2030. Hosted by President John Dramani Mahama, the summit provided a platform for continental dialogue on Africa’s health priorities.

15 years ago Norway was struck by the terrorist attack of 22 July 2011, in which 77 people were killed. Most of those who lost their lives were young people.

This year, Norway opened a new national memorial in the Government Quarter, honouring the victims and all those affected by the attacks.

Today, we remember the lost lives. Our thoughts are with the survivors and everyone who lost loved ones. Never forget.🕊️

Following an unforgettable performance at the World Cup, more than 90,000 people gathered in Oslo to welcome home and celebrate a team that made an entire nation proud.🇳🇴

As part of the celebrations, the team was received by His Majesty King Harald V and members of the Royal Family before joining the crowds in an emotional collective “rowing” celebration, a symbolic gesture representing the unity between the team and its supporters throughout the tournament.🥁⚽️🚣🏽‍♀️
