The planet is sending us signals—in rising seas, raging wildfires, heatwaves, and melting glaciers.

That's why this year's World Environment Day focuses on climate change—on the signals the Earth is sending, and the signals we choose to send back.

UNEP’s campaign invites people everywhere to join a symbolic, energetic movement—not as spectators, but as signal-makers. Through the global limbo dance challenge, participants are asked to send a unified signal to world leaders to protect the planet for this generation and the next.

Today, we laid 4⃣wreaths💐in memory of UN peacekeepers who have lost their lives under the blue helmet, including Warrant Officer Class 1 George Amin of Ghana Armed Forces, who lost his life in February 2025 while serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.

The United Nations in Ghana today joined the Government of Ghana under the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and partners to mark the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers in Accra under the theme “Invest in Peace.”

The event honoured the dedication, service and sacrifice of peacekeepers serving in some of the world’s most complex and dangerous environments, and paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the line of duty, including Warrant Officer Class 1 Amin.

Speakers highlighted the continued importance of UN peacekeeping in protecting civilians, supporting political solutions, facilitating humanitarian assistance and advancing global peace and security, despite growing operational and financial challenges.

The commemoration also recognised Ghana’s longstanding contribution to UN peacekeeping operations, with more than 1,900 Ghanaian military and police personnel currently serving across eight UN missions worldwide.
