HASAG AND CHAG HOLD VIRTUAL CAPACITY-BUILDING SESSION FOR ACCOUNTING PROFESSIONALS WITHIN THE CHAG NETWORK

The National Executive Committee of the Health Accounting Staff Association of Ghana (HASAG), in collaboration with the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), successfully organized a virtual capacity-building session for Accountants, Internal Auditors, Finance Officers, Accounts Officers, and other accounting professionals, both mechanized and non-mechanized, within the CHAG Network.

The session was designed to strengthen the professional competencies of participants in financial management and administration while providing members with updates on key initiatives, advocacy efforts, and developments being undertaken by HASAG in the interest of its membership.

The programme attracted a significant number of finance and accounting professionals from CHAG facilities across the country, demonstrating the commitment of members to continuous professional development and the promotion of sound financial stewardship within the healthcare sector.

A major highlight of the session was a presentation by the Director of Finance of CHAG, Mr. Enoch Osei Adade, who facilitated an in-depth review of the CHAG Financial Administration Manual. His presentation provided valuable insights into the policies, procedures, and best practices that govern financial administration within the CHAG Network. Participants gained a deeper understanding of the manual and had the opportunity to seek clarification on key operational and compliance issues relevant to their day-to-day responsibilities.

The National President of HASAG also addressed participants on matters relating to the welfare and professional advancement of accounting staff. He provided updates on several ongoing engagements and advocacy initiatives, including:

- The mechanization of casual and non-mechanized staff within the health sector.
- Welfare interventions and support packages aimed at improving members’ well-being.
- Current developments regarding the impasse with the Health Services Workers’ Union (HSWU).
- Progress made towards the migration of members onto the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) grading structure.
- Strategic interventions aimed at enhancing the professional recognition and career progression of accounting personnel.
- Proposals for the enrolment of casual and non-mechanized accounting staff within the health sector into the mainstream membership of HASAG.
- A proposal to institute a structured promotional progression scheme for non-mechanized accounting staff, similar to the progression framework available to mechanized accounting personnel within the health sector.

The interactive nature of the session enabled participants to ask questions, share concerns, and receive firsthand information from both CHAG and HASAG leadership. Members expressed appreciation for the initiative and acknowledged the importance of such engagements in promoting transparency, professional development, and effective communication between leadership and the membership.

In his closing remarks, the National President reaffirmed HASAG’s unwavering commitment to advocating for the interests and welfare of its members. He emphasized the Association’s determination to continue collaborating with key stakeholders to improve working conditions, enhance professional development opportunities, and advance the career growth of accounting personnel within the healthcare sector.

The programme concluded with a call on members to remain united, professional, and supportive of the Association’s vision and activities as it continues to champion the welfare, professional development, and recognition of accounting staff across Ghana.
