Next stop: Denmark! 🎓✈️

We were delighted to host the talented students receiving the Danida fellowship centre Master’s scholarship for a pre-departure send-off ahead of their journey to Denmark.

What brings this ambitious group together is their shared commitment to environment, sustainability and the green transition 🌱
Next week, the six students will head to Denmark to pursue Master’s degrees at the University of Copenhagen and University of Southern Denmark through the programme. 🎓✈️
The DFC programme offers scholarships for Master’s studies at Danish universities to talented students from partner organisations within Denmark’s Strategic Sector Cooperation.

We look forward to following the students’ journey and seeing how they will contribute to sustainable development in Ghana in the years to come. 🌍✨

⚡🌱 Powering Climate Innovation with Python!

An insightful and impactful Python training for our partners at the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet)—strengthening skills, innovation and sustainability.

💡 Why Python? Beyond powering the Ghana Climate Atlas, the training equips GMet teams to:

✅ Automate workflows and data pipelines
✅ Streamline reporting on early warnings, forecasts and research
✅ Improve efficiency and documentation across units
✅ Strengthen data-driven climate services

Expertly facilitated by specialists from DMI and the Climate and Air Quality Modelling Group of CSIR South Africa, the training is another step towards building sustainable in-house capacity.
🌍 The Embassy is proud to support GMet’s digital transformation and innovation—an investment in Ghana’s climate resilience and green transition.

👏 Special appreciation to Dr. Shingirai Nangombe (DMI), Dr. Mohau Jacob Mateyisi and Dr. Nkanyiso Mbatha (CSIR South Africa) for the practical facilitation, and to GMet management and the enthusiastic GMet team for their commitment to building a safer and more sustainable future.

The Python training was held within the Strategic Sector Coorperation between Denmark’s Meteorology Institution, Ghana Meteorological Agency and The Royal Danish Embassy in Accra focussing on Meteorology and Climate.

🌍 International Youth Day

On International Youth Day, we celebrate the creativity, leadership, and determination of young people to drive positive change in their communities and beyond.

One inspiring example is the youth partnership between MUNDU – Centre for Global Education, VIA University College, Youth Empowerment for Life (YEFL), and Ghana Food Movement (GFM). Through workshops, digital collaboration, and study visits, Danish students and young Ghanaian activists exchange ideas, and develop initiatives on climate action, sustainable food systems, mental well-being and community engagement.
Supported through the GLOBUS Fund administered by the Danish Centre for Church-Based Development (CKU) and DTA – Danish Trade Union Development Agency, the project is built on mutual learning and equal partnerships. The young participants function as facilitators and experts, while building the confidence and skills to contribute to sustainable development in their own communities.

A warm Akwaaba to our new interns!

We are excited to welcome our interns to the Embassy of Denmark in Ghana, where they will be joining us of the next six months in Accra.

Ebubechukwu Latoya Nnamani a bachelor’s student in Law at the University of Copenhagen, joining the Partnership and Development team. She will support the Peace and stabilisation programme, working on initiatives related to military, police, and humanitarian operations.

Jeppe Sophus Helweg-Larsen is our political intern. Pursuing a master’s in International Politics and Governance From Roskilde University, supporting the Embassy’s work in Ghana and our side-accredited countries, with a focus on political developments and regional affairs.

Johan René Jørgensen, a master’s student in Human Security at Aarhus University. He will be joining the Strategic Sector Cooperation. There he will support projects in water, statistics and meteorology.

Mihireteab Abera Hawaz, a bachelor’s student in Export and Technology at University College of Northern Denmark. She is joining our Economic Diplomacy team, where she will contribute to initiatives in water, agriculture, technology, and digitalisation.

Friendship builds partnerships. Partnerships create lasting change.

Today, on the International Day of Friendship we celebrate the friendships and partnerships that have connected Denmark and Ghana for more than four decades.

Since 1979, Ghana Venskab has built bridges between Denmark and Ghana through long-term people-to people engagement. With 330 members and around 40 active volunteers, they support equal partnerships, student exchanges and collaboration focused on youth empowerment, climate resilience, basic education and good governance.

From Danish volunteers like long-serving member Paul Kattler, who first visited Ghana in the 1980s, to today’s close collaboration with partner organizations such as Changing Lives in Innovative Partnerships (CLIP), Ghana Venskab continues to invest in equal partnerships and promoting cultural exchange.

Over the years, these partnerships have enabled generations of students, volunteers and civil society actors to exchange knowledge and build lasting professional and personal relationships across Denmark and Ghana.

🎓✈️ Next stop: Denmark and Copenhagen Business School!

The Embassy was delighted to host a pre-departure meeting for two master's scholarship recipients as they prepare to begin an exciting new academic journey in Denmark this August.

They are awarded scholarships under the Knowledge and Innovation Programme (KIP), administered by Danida Fellowship Centre (DFC) 📚

What is the Knowledge and Innovation Programme?
The Knowledge and Innovation Programme strengthens collaboration between African and Danish universities. Through these partnerships, the programme equips future leaders with global perspectives while fostering stronger academic and institutional cooperation to address shared challenges in a rapidly changing world.

When four countries come together, shared challenges become shared learning 🌍📊

This week, statistics institutions from Ghana, Vietnam and Morocco came together in Denmark for a study visit hosted by Danmarks Statistik on communication and dissemination of statistics.

Across countries, the challenge is often the same: how do we make statistics accessible, relevant and useful to the people who need them?

This study visit showed that it starts with knowing your users, tailoring your content and building statistical literacy so more people can understand and use statistics in practice.

A new practical guide for investigating maritime crime

The Embassy of Denmark is pleased to announce the virtual launch of the Guide for Investigating Crimes in the Maritime Domain on 18 June 2026.

The Guide provides practical tools and methodologies to strengthen maritime investigations, prosecutions, and international police cooperation. Developed by INTERPOL HQ in collaboration with national maritime law enforcement agencies and international partners under the ‘Danish Maritime Security Programme for the Gulf of Guinea’ (2022–2026).

Piracy in the Gulf of Guinea has declined, but maritime crimes persist – from oil theft and drug trafficking, to illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, and cyber-enabled crime.

As a seafaring nation, Denmark remains committed to safeguarding freedom of navigation and strengthening maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea through its partnership with INTERPOL.

Copies of the Guide will be made available to maritime law enforcement institutions through INTERPOL’s National Central Bureaus and channels.
