GFZA ENGAGES AfCFTA NATIONAL COORDINATING OFFICE (NCO)

Accra, September, 2026

The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) held a meeting with the AfCFTA National Coordinating Office (NCO) on Thursday, 4th September 2026, at the GFZA Head Office in Accra, to discuss challenges confronting Free Zones Enterprises in accessing and benefiting from the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), as well as explore opportunities for collaboration between the two institutions.

In her remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of GFZA, Dr. Mary Awusi, welcomed the delegation and highlighted the mandate of the Authority in promoting and facilitating export-oriented investments in Ghana. She noted that although GFZA has over 300 licensed Free Zones Enterprises, only 32 companies are currently registered under the AfCFTA, underscoring the need to address the challenges limiting greater participation and enable more enterprises to access the benefits of the continental market.

The leader of the delegation and newly appointed National Coordinator of the AfCFTA NCO, Mr. Dodi Seidu, expressed appreciation to GFZA for its efforts and acknowledged the challenges raised during the meeting. He called for strengthened collaboration between the two institutions to address the concerns of Free Zones Enterprises and enhance their participation in intra-African trade.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both institutions to deliberate on the challenges faced by Free Zones Enterprises in registering and operating under the AfCFTA framework. Both sides agreed on the need for collaborative efforts to identify practical solutions to these challenges and facilitate greater participation of Free Zones Enterprises in the AfCFTA market.

GFZA participates in official opening of Ghana Horticulture Expo 2026

Accra, September 2026

The 3rd edition of the Ghana Horticulture Expo officially opened on Thursday, 3rd September 2026, at the Palms Convention Centre in Accra, bringing together farmers, exporters, processors, financial institutions, students, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders to promote investment and growth in Ghana’s horticulture and non-traditional export sectors. The Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Finance & Administration), Mr. Hamidu Sibiri Musah, participated as a special guest at the opening ceremony.

The three-day event, which runs from 3rd to 5th September 2026, is being organized by the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE) under the theme, “From Soil to Sovereignty: Building Agricultural Self-Reliance.”
Speaking at the event on behalf of the President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, the Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu Adjare, said her priority is to strengthen the linkages between production, industry and markets to ensure that agricultural output supports industrial development, more value is added locally and competitive Ghanaian produce reaches larger markets.

She noted that this objective is at the heart of the newly approved Agribusiness Policy, which addresses raw material supply, financing, value addition, and market access to help Ghana create and retain greater value from its productive capacity.
In his address, Mr. Hamidu Sibiri Musah noted that this year’s theme is both timely and significant, as agricultural self-reliance requires the development of productive capacity, value chains, and business systems that enable Ghana to feed its people, supply industries, reduce avoidable import dependence, create jobs and earn foreign exchange, while remaining competitive in international markets.

He said this is where the GFZA plays a critical role by providing an enabling framework for export-oriented enterprises to establish operations, expand production, undertake value addition, and compete effectively in international markets. He added that these enterprises are supported by fiscal and customs incentives that help reduce the cost of investment and production.

Other officials from the Authority who attended the opening ceremony included the Director of Marketing & Investment Promotion, Ms. Anita Novi Quashie, as well as officers from the Corporate Affairs, PR & Aftercare and Marketing & Investment Promotion Departments.

GFZA RECEIVES DELEGATION FROM BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY FRANCE GHANA (CCIFG)

Accra, August 2026

The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) on Monday, 31st August 2026, received a delegation from the newly elected Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry France Ghana (CCIFG) on a courtesy visit to the Authority. The delegation was led by Mr. Guillaume Valence, President, and included Mr. Adedamola Adelabu, Vice-President; Ms. Catherine Johnson, Treasurer; Mr. Jean-Paul Nassar, Vice-Treasurer; Mr. Julien Frioux, Ex-Officio Member; and Ms. Maxine Reindorf-Partey, Managing Director.

The visit provided an opportunity for the new Board to introduce itself to the Authority, strengthen the existing relationship between the two institutions and explore areas of collaboration in investment promotion, trade, industrial development and export-oriented business.

Receiving the delegation, the Chief Executive Officer of the GFZA, Dr. Mary Awusi, in her welcome remarks, highlighted the longstanding bilateral relations between Ghana and France and underscored the need to further deepen the economic and commercial ties between the two countries. She noted the growing interest of French businesses in Ghana and highlighted opportunities available under the Free Zones Scheme for French investors seeking to establish or expand export-oriented operations in the country.

As part of the engagement, Ms. Anita Novi Quashie, Director of Marketing and Investment Promotion, delivered a presentation on the Ghana Free Zones Scheme. The presentation provided an overview of the Free Zones concept and highlighted the contribution of French investment to the Scheme and the potential for greater French participation in Ghana’s export-oriented industrial development.

Discussions subsequently focused on areas of mutual interest, including opportunities and operational considerations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), collaboration between the GFZA and other investment promotion agencies and institutional support available to investors operating in Ghana.
Further discussions addressed logistics and trade-related challenges encountered by French exporters serving African markets. The Director of Corporate Affairs, PR & Aftercare, Dr. Mrs. Patience Agbleze Acorlor, and Director of Business Development & Research, Mr. Lawrence Osei-Boateng, also provided insights into the treatment of goods exported from Ghana into the ECOWAS Customs Union and the 10 year progressive removal of tariffs under the AfCFTA framework.

The engagement provided a valuable platform for deepening the relationship between the GFZA and CCIFG and advancing discussions on French investment, trade facilitation and the implementation of the AfCFTA. It reaffirmed the potential for enhanced collaboration to attract increased French investment, expand export-oriented production and contribute to Ghana’s industrialisation agenda.
The meeting was attended by other Directors, Heads of Departments and Officers of the Authority.

GFZA ENGAGES TRADE & INVESTMENT KWAZULU-NATAL ON EXPORT AND INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) received a delegation from Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal (TIKZN), South Africa, at its Head Office in Accra on Monday, 24 August 2026, for discussions aimed at strengthening trade and investment cooperation between Ghana and South Africa.

In her opening remarks, the CEO of GFZA, Dr. Mary Awusi, welcomed the delegation and expressed the Authority's readiness to deepen collaboration with Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal. She highlighted the opportunities available under Ghana's Free Zones Scheme and encouraged South African companies, particularly those from KwaZulu-Natal, to consider Ghana as a strategic investment destination and gateway to the wider African market.

As part of the engagement, the Director of Marketing and Investment Promotion, Ms. Anita Quashie, delivered a presentation on Ghana's Free Zones Scheme, highlighting the incentives, export opportunities, investment prospects and support available to businesses seeking to establish operations in Ghana.

The discussions also explored opportunities for collaboration and information-sharing to support South African businesses interested in expanding their operations, investing in Ghana and accessing new markets.

GFZA PARTICIPATES IN LAUNCH OF 2025 ANNUAL INVESTMENT REPORT

The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) participated in the launch of the 2025 Annual Investment Report on Friday, 21 August 2026, at the Bank Square of the Bank of Ghana in Accra.
The report is a collaborative effort of the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA), Bank of Ghana, Petroleum Commission and the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA). It provides comprehensive information on Ghana’s investment landscape, including trends in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), to support evidence-based policymaking, investment promotion and informed decision-making.

The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, who was the keynote speaker, highlighted the importance of investment to Ghana’s industrialisation, job creation and economic growth. She noted that the report would serve as a useful tool for assessing the country’s investment progress and informing strategies to improve the investment environment. She also commended the collaborating institutions for producing the report.

Representing the Chief Executive Officer of GFZA, Dr. Mary Awusi, the Deputy CEO for Operations, Mr. Lateef Apau Wiredu, joined other stakeholders at the launch and commended the collaborating institutions for their efforts in producing the report. He noted that the report provides an important reference for assessing Ghana’s investment performance and identifying opportunities to attract further investments and promote sustainable economic growth.

The launch brought together heads of government institutions, investors, Ambassadors, representatives of private sector organisations and other key stakeholders in Ghana’s investment ecosystem.
GFZA continues to contribute to the country’s investment promotion efforts through the facilitation of Free Zones investments, provision of investment incentives and support for export-oriented enterprises to expand their operations and access regional and international markets.

GFZA PARTICIPATES IN 5TH EDITION OF CEO’S CONNECT

The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) participated in the 5th Edition of the Canada Ghana Chamber of Commerce (CANCHAM) CEO’s Connect held on Thursday, 20 August 2026, at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra.
The annual CEO’s Connect serves as a platform for business leaders to exchange ideas, share experiences and build strategic relationships.

The 2026 edition brought together Chief Executive Officers, business leaders, investors, policymakers and other key stakeholders to engage in discussions on the evolving business landscape and opportunities for collaboration, investment and sustainable growth.
Representing the CEO of the GFZA, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Finance and Administration, Mr. Hamidu Sibiri Musah, participated as a panellist in a high-level discussion, where he shared perspectives on issues affecting businesses, investment and economic growth. He also highlighted the incentives and opportunities available to businesses operating under the Free Zones programme and the broader Special Economic Zones framework.

Mr. Musah emphasised the need for businesses to place greater focus on data, research and innovation in their production and investment decisions. He noted that access to reliable data and continuous research are critical for businesses to understand market trends, improve production processes, develop competitive products and make informed investment decisions.

The GFZA’s participation in the event forms part of its continued engagement with the private sector and international business community to promote Ghana as an attractive destination for investment and export-oriented manufacturing, while strengthening partnerships that can contribute to sustainable economic growth.

GFZA HOSTS JOINT TECHNICAL MEETING TO REVIEW DRAFT LOCAL PLAN FOR AFIENYA INDUSTRIAL PARK.

Accra, August 2026

The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) on Thursday, 20 August 2026, hosted a Joint Technical Sub-Committee meeting involving the Ningo-Prampram District Assembly and the Shai-Osudoku District Assembly to review the Draft Local Plan for the proposed Afienya Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

The meeting, held at the GFZA Head Office in Cantonments, Accra, brought together district planning officers, engineers, physical planning officers and environmental health officers from the two assemblies. Representatives from the Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority (LUSPA), Lands Commission, Environmental Protection Authority, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Water Company Limited, Ghana Hydrological Services Agency, Department of Urban Roads and the National Disaster Management Organization also participated.

The engagement forms part of the GFZA's efforts to develop its newly acquired 1,238-acre site at Afienya into a modern SEZ. To ensure the orderly and sustainable development of the area, the GFZA engaged LUSPA to draft a Local Plan to guide land use, infrastructure development, and the overall spatial management of the proposed SEZ.

In his opening remarks, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Operations at the GFZA, Mr. Lateef Apau Wiredu, expressed appreciation to the participating institutions for their contributions. He particularly commended LUSPA for its commitment and technical expertise in preparing the Draft Local Plan. He further highlighted the strategic importance of the Afienya project and stressed the need for an inclusive and participatory planning process involving all relevant stakeholders to ensure its successful implementation.

The Greater Accra Regional Director of LUSPA, Madam Okyere, who facilitated the meeting, explained that the technical review was an important step towards securing final approval for the Local Plan. She further noted that the proposed Afienya SEZ forms part of the broader 13,200-acre Shai-Afienya-Dawhenya Industrial Enclave and Urban Renewal Project.
Mr. Elvis Mensah of LUSPA subsequently presented the Draft Local Plan. The inputs and recommendations from the meeting will guide the next stage of the planning process, leading to consideration and approval by the relevant Spatial Planning Committees.

The exercise demonstrates the GFZA's commitment to strategic spatial planning, stakeholder collaboration and sustainable development as it advances the establishment of the proposed Afienya SEZ. The project is expected to serve as a major catalyst for industrialization, investment, job creation and economic development.
Also present at the meeting was the Head of Estate & Zones Development, Mr. Benjamin Obeng; as well as other officers of the GFZA.

GFZA PARTICIPATES OPENING CEREMONY OF 3RD CHINA–WEST AFRICA MEDICAL AND HEALTH INDUSTRY SUMMIT & EXPO.

The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) participated in the opening ceremony of the 3rd China–West Africa Medical and Health Industry & AI Diagnosis and Project Cooperation Summit & Expo 2026, held under the theme, “Strengthening China–West Africa Health Partnerships Through Innovation, Investment, Technology and Sustainable Healthcare Development,” on 19 August 2026 at the Ghana International Mall in Accra.

The three-day event, organized by the Health Community of West Africa Association (HCOWAA), brought together representatives from sixteen (16) West African countries, fifty (50) participants from the medical sector and three hundred (300) exhibitors from China, Ghana and other African countries.
The President of the Health Community of West Africa Association (HCOWAA), Ms. Sihong Jiang, noted that the Summit provides a platform for governments, healthcare institutions, investors and technology companies to share knowledge, explore partnerships and create new investment opportunities in Ghana and beyond.

Representing the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mary Awusi, at the opening ceremony, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Operations, Mr. Lateef Apau Wiredu, highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships and investment in strengthening Ghana's industrial and economic development. He stated that the Authority is focused on partnerships that go beyond trade and distribution to include local manufacturing, technology transfer, research and development, skills training and innovation. He further noted that the longstanding relationship between Ghana and China continues to create opportunities for investment, particularly in sectors critical to Ghana's development.

The Deputy Minister of Health, Professor Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, in her keynote address, emphasized the importance of partnerships, innovation, technology transfer, knowledge exchange and investment in building a resilient and modern healthcare system and strengthening healthcare delivery in the country.
The Authority's participation reflects its broader mandate of facilitating investment, supporting industrial development and promoting Ghana as a competitive destination for investors seeking access to the Ghanaian and wider African markets.

GFZA HOSTS CHINESE DELEGATION TO EXPLORE FREE ZONES INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) on Tuesday, 18th August 2026, hosted a 26-member delegation from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) at its Head Office in Accra, as part of a pre-Summit programme for the 3rd China–West Africa Medical and Health Industry, AI and Diagnosis Cooperation Summit and Expo.

Welcoming the delegation, the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mary Awusi, expressed appreciation for the visit and highlighted Ghana’s potential as a strategic investment destination. She emphasised the country’s access to the wider African market and the opportunities available to investors under the Free Zones Scheme.
The leader of the delegation, Mr. Junchen Liu, expressed appreciation to the Authority for the warm reception and the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Ghana’s Free Zones Scheme and the investment opportunities available to Chinese businesses.

As part of the engagement, the Director of Marketing and Investment Promotion, Ms. Anita Novi Quashie, delivered a presentation on the Free Zones Programme, highlighting the investment incentives, licensing categories, priority sectors and Ghana’s access to the African market through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Agreement. Emphasis was placed on the pharmaceutical sector and its potential for investment, local production and value addition.

The engagement forms part of the Authority’s efforts to promote Ghana as a preferred investment destination and strengthen Ghana–China trade and investment relations, particularly in emerging areas such as pharmaceuticals and healthcare
