NADMO Ghana www.nadmo.gov.gh Disasters are both natural and man-made (human induced). Disaster Management is multi-sectoral and multi-disciplinary in practice.

In Ghana, National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) is the constitutionally mandated government agency to coordinate the management of disasters and other emergencies. The Organisation, with its Headquarters in Accra has offices in all the ten (10) Regional, one hundred and seventy (170) Districts and nine hundred (900) Zonal capitals. It comprises all activities in the three phases of the disaster management cycle, i.e. before, during and after emergencies.

NADMO Assesses Rising Water Levels in Daboya Savannah Region

Col. Lawrence Ahlie, Director of Operations (NADMO) has led a team to Daboya in the Savannah Region as part of ongoing monitoring activities following the Bagre Dam spillage.

The team first paid a courtesy call on the District Chief Executive for North Gonja District, Hon. Nashiru Abdulai, at the District Assembly. He expressed appreciation to NADMO for its proactive response and efforts to support communities affected by the rising water levels.

The team subsequently proceeded to the Daboya–Sisipe crossing point, where it assessed the rising water levels and sensitised canoe operators and passengers on safety precautions while using the waterway.

NADMO Assesses Rising Water Levels at Sapeliga Confluence

The NADMO Headquarters team, led by Director of Operations, Col. Lawrence Ahlie, has joined the Upper East Regional NADMO team, led by Regional Director Ms. Akolgo Rebecca Hasmatu, for an assessment and sensitisation exercise in the Bawku West District following the Bagre Dam spillage.

The team met the DCE, Hon. James Ayamweogo, who commended NADMO for its continuous sensitisation efforts and called for sustained support to address the impact of rising river waters on local communities and farmers.

The team proceeded to the Sapeliga Confluence, where the Red and White Volta meet, to assess the rising water levels. Life jackets were presented to Disaster Volunteer Groups (DVGs) who assist residents crossing the waterway to and from their farms.

Col. Ahlie reaffirmed NADMO’s commitment to protecting lives and property and building a disaster-free Ghana, assuring the DVGs of continued support when needed.

NADMO, 51 Engineer Regiment Assess Flood Situation in North East

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), in collaboration with the 51 Engineer Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces, has conducted an assessment and sensitisation exercise in the Mamprugu/Moaduri Municipality following the spillage of the Bagre’ Dam.

Led by NADMO’s Director of Operations, Col. Lawrence Ahlie, the team monitored rising water levels in the Yagaba, Prima and Wuyima rivers and engaged residents on safety measures.

The team also presented life jackets to the Yagaba community to support Disaster Volunteer Groups (DVGs) in protecting lives and assisting farmers and commuters around the affected water bodies.

Col. Ahlie reaffirmed NADMO’s commitment to building a disaster free Ghana and commended the DVGs for their continued dedication to safeguarding lives and property.

NADMO MONITORS WATER LEVELS AT SAPELLIGA AHEAD OF BAGRE DAM SPILLAGE

The NADMO team has visited Sapeliga in the Bawku West Municipality to monitor water levels at the confluence of the Red and White Volta Rivers ahead of the planned spillage of the Bagre Dam by SONABEL on August 28, 2026.

The exercise forms part of ongoing monitoring and preparedness efforts to assess the situation on the ground and provide early warnings to communities that may be at risk.

Team Lead, Colonel Lawrence Ahlie, also engaged members of the Disaster Volunteer Group stationed at the confluence. He encouraged the volunteers to ensure that residents who cross the water bodies to access their farms always wear the life jackets provided by NADMO.

He emphasized that protecting lives must remain the core priority of the volunteers, particularly as water levels rise, and urged them to remain vigilant and continue educating residents on safe practices.

Colonel Ahlie reminded the volunteers that their work contributes directly to NADMO’s vision of building a disaster-free Ghana.

The NADMO team has continued its water-level monitoring and community sensitization activities in Gbeo, Bisigu and Pwalugu in the North East and Upper East Region.

As part of the exercise, the team visited the Pwalugu Brigade to assess and monitor the current water levels, while engaging residents on precautionary measures ahead of the anticipated dam spillage.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant, harvest matured crops early and avoid entering farms when water levels begin to rise.
