*Food Safety Visit to International Livestock Market*
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As part of the food safety month celebrations, the National Food Safery Laboratory in tandem with the Veterinary unit at Kpone- Katamanso embarked on a food safety advocacy and education campaign at the International Livestock market Turaku by engaging the food vendors, the livestock farmers ,the butchers , meat processors and meat sellers highlighing the significant role they each play within the food value chain.
In the spirit of One health, there was a round table discussion with a representative from the assembly, a public health engineer from MoH, the butchers association representatives and Veterinary staff on the various challenges we each face that impedes our roles within the animal food value chain and the possible way forward to address these bottlenecks the livestock sector faces.
Demonstrating a strong private-public partnership, the National Food Safety Lab teamed up with a private grass farmer to donate a tonne of Super Napier grass to livestock farmers. The goal of this contribution is to support farmers in providing better nutrition for their animals, fostering animal well-being, and producing superior meat for human consumption.
