GSFP HOLDS JOINT MONITORING EXERCISE WITH DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS

The National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme, Hajia Fati Forgor, has led a high-level delegation from the World Bank and International Monetary Fund on a joint monitoring exercise.

The exercise took place at the Flagstaff House Basic School at Kanda in the Greater Accra Region on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. The School has been on the feeding programme since its inception in September 2005 – 20 solid years!

Other members of the monitoring team included: Adrian Alter, IMF Resident Representative; Robert Chase, Social Policy Manager, West Africa Region, World Bank; Cornelia Tesliuc, GPSNP2 Team Leader, World Bank; Esther Zaharatu Mahama, Director of Operations, GSFP; Akyere Frimpong Manu, Director of M&E, GSFP; and Siiba Alfa, Director of Public Relations, GSFP, as well as other GSFP staff from the Greater Accra Region.

The team had an interactive and engaging session with the Head Teacher of the School, Mrs. Esther Konadu Obiri-Ansu gears towards improving the Programme in the School.

GSFP National Coordinator also enumerated a number of innovative programmes being undertaken by the Programme to strengthen and sustain the Programme.

There were general discussions with the development partners on the current state of the Programme and what our partners can bring on board to support the social intervention programme.

GSFP Meeting with World Bank Mission to Assess Support Progress.

The Management of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) led by the National Coordinator Hajia Fati Forgor and some senoir officials from the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection held a productive meeting with the World Bank mission in Ghana to discuss strategies for the expedious implementation of support interventions being provided to the Programme.

The meeting held this afternoon at the Mission's Country Office in Accra focused on the current progress of the support activities, implementation time frames, addressing implementation challenges, and identifying practical measures to ensure timely delivery of the interventions.

The GSFP and the World reiterated their commitment to working closely together to ensure the successful implementation of the support package aimed at improving the effectiveness and sustainability of the School Feeding Programme across the country.

Day 2 of the joint monitoring exercise of selected low fee-paying private schools.

Today the team led by the Ghana School Feeding Programme National Coordinator Hajia Fati Forgor, World Food Programme Country Director Madam Aurore Rusiga and an official of the Ministry of Education was at Zebilla, Bawku West District; Upper East Region to continue with the monitoring exercise.

The team visited the following schools: Supreme Academy and Adi Educational Complex both in the Bawku West District, Zebilla.

GSFP and WFP Assess Private Sector-Led Feeding Initiative in Tamale

The National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme, Hajia Fati Forgor, together with the Country Director of the World Food Programme, Madam Aurore Rusiga and official from the Ministry of Education undertook a joint monitoring exercise in selected low fee-paying private schools in Tamale under the private sector-led model of the school feeding programme.

The beneficiary schools monitored under the initiative included: Harvest Community School and Oxford Grammar School located within the Tamale Metropolis.

The exercise was aimed at assessing the implementation of the programme, monitoring the quality of meals served to pupils, and engaging school authorities and cooks on improving nutrition and service delivery. The team also interacted with stakeholders to evaluate the impact of the initiative on school enrolment, attendance, and the general welfare of the children.

Beneficiaries of the programme, including school authorities and Parents Teacher Association appealed to the Ghana School Feeding Programme and the World Food Programme to explore alternative means to sustain the intervention, as the initiative is expected to end in May 2026. They called for support through donor partnerships or any other feasible arrangements to ensure the continuity of feeding support for pupils in the beneficiary schools.

The monitoring exercise forms part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the GSFP and WFP

WFP currently implements it's school feeding activities in 208 low fee-paying private schools in 7 regions. It uses a combination of cash and voucher transfers. A total of 58997 school children are impacted through this initiative.

GSFP HOLDS WORKSHOP ON SCHOOL CONNECT PLATFORM

The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) is holding a Training of Trainers workshop for its management and staff on piloting the School Connect digital platform.
‎
‎Through the School Connect platform, real-time data on enrolment, attendance, and meals served can be captured directly at the school level. This shift from manual to digital systems will enhance transparency, improve data accuracy, and support informed decision-making.
‎
The Initiative, in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP) and supported by the Government of the Republic of Korea through Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), will be implemented in 350 schools nationwide.
‎
‎Participants will be responsible for training Headteachers in selected districts across the country next week.
