Recently moved over to Guernsey to live here permanently? 🇬🇬

If you've brought a vehicle with you, please remember that you need to register it 🚗

It can be driven in Guernsey for up to 14 days after arriving. After this, it must not be driven locally and should be kept on private land until it is registered. More information about registering a vehicle is available at gov.gg/BuyingSellingAVehicle.

Don't forget that if you've moved over here permanently, you'll also need to exchange your existing full driving licence for a Guernsey driving licence within 12 months of moving to the island. If you don't do this within 12 months, you won't be covered to drive using your foreign licence until you have exchanged it for a Guernsey licence.

More information about exchanging driving licences is available at gov.gg/ExchangedrivingLicence, which also contains a list of countries with which Guernsey has a licence exchange agreement in place.

Islanders should expect to hear sirens from Victoria Tower on Sunday morning (26 April), as a new siren is installed and tested.

Both a “warning” and an “all clear” sound will be heard later that morning as part of the test.

A new siren is being installed to replace one that had reached the end of its working life. The replacement has been arranged through collaboration between States Property Unit and Guernsey Museums.

Sirens were first installed around the island in 1937 and were used as a warning system during the Occupation. Today, the Victoria Tower siren is used for commemorative occasions such as Liberation Day and Remembrance Day.
