A comprehensive guide on how best to recover people from the sea has been published on www.harbours.gg .

Called “Recovery of Persons in Water – A Guide to Good Practice for Small Vessels”, it is aimed at all boat users especially local commercial and fishing fleets.

Jerome Davis AFNI, Head of Port Operations for Guernsey Ports says: “Immersion in cold water represents a serious threat to life but this can be significantly reduced with the correct knowledge, procedures, equipment, and training.

“This comprehensive guide provides the information needed to significantly reduce the chances of a tragedy if an individual goes overboard. Reading this guide could save lives.”

Technical insights presentation

This week, engineers in Guernsey (and Jersey) will be given a personal insight into the technical investigations around the new proposed marina in St Peter Port.

Guernsey Ports programme manager Jenny Giles will be guest speaker at the Channel Islands Group of Professional Engineers (CIGPE) lectures in the two islands. She will give a presentation on the studies she has headed up to assess the potential for a new, all tide accessible marina in St Peter Port Harbour.

Guernsey Ports has said that as well as addressing the existing shortage of berths for local boatowners, a new facility could provide a boost to the local economy.

The local event will be at Les Cotils this Wednesday (23 November) at 7.30pm.

It is free to attend and everyone is welcome.
