Supporting Young People in Education: Challenges, Strategies, and Training Impact
Introduction
Working with young people can be immensely rewarding, offering a sense of purpose and fulfilment. However, it also presents unique challenges. Those in teaching and training roles are increasingly facing complex situations, not only within the classroom but also beyond it.
The Importance of Classroom Management
Managing a classroom effectively is vital for fostering a positive learning environment. Early identification of potential issues is key, as it allows staff to intervene quickly and maintain a productive atmosphere. Recognising the signs of emerging difficulties ensures that action can be taken before problems escalate, benefiting both learners and educators.
Understanding ACEs and De-escalation Techniques
An awareness of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the use of de-escalation techniques are essential tools for staff working with young people. By developing these skills, staff members feel more confident in their ability to engage with learners and address their individual needs. This knowledge empowers educators to intervene appropriately, reducing the likelihood of situations escalating and promoting a safer, more supportive environment.
Training Delivery and Impact
I have delivered a one-day training programme to over 200 staff members working in the education sector. Feedback from attendees has been overwhelmingly positive, with participants reporting increased confidence and improved engagement with learners. The training has helped staff better understand the needs of young people and how to respond effectively to challenging situations.
Feedback and Further Information
Below is a selection of the feedback I have gathered from staff who attended the training, highlighting the significant positive impact it has had. If you are seeking training to support your team, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Notably, the training has resulted in less burnout among staff, fewer sick days, and a reduction in staff leaving employment, which ultimately benefits both individuals and organisations by reducing the costs associated with recruiting and training new team members.
