Today some of our firefighters took part in the charity car wash at Langlands Garden Centre Shiptonthorpe for The Firefighters Charity. We raised over £1150 due to the hard work from the firefighters and your generosity. We all would like to say a big thank you to all involved.

🎁 Christmas Present Appeal – Supporting Castle Hill’s Queens Centre and Dove House Hospice 🎁

This festive season, our Training Section and newest firefighter recruits are teaming up once again to spread joy through our Christmas Present Appeal, helping make things a little brighter for those who need it most.

We're focusing on making sure that people receiving treatment or on a cancer pathway at Castle Hill Hospital’s Queens Centre, as well as those supported by Dove House Hospice, receives a thoughtful gift.

We’re calling on our amazing community to help make this happen! If you’d like to donate, here’s a list of ideal gifts (but not exhaustive):

🎁 Toiletry gift sets
🎲 Board games
🧴 Hand creams and lip balms
🛏️ Blankets
🎨 Colouring books (child and adult) + felt-tip pens/pencils
🧦 Fluffy socks/slippers (with gripped soles)
🍫 Chocolate
😴 Sleep masks
💧 Reusable water bottles
📚 Books for all ages

Please note the gifts do not need to be wrapped.

Deliveries to Castle Hill’s Queens Centre and Dove House Hospice will begin from 15 December, so please get your donations in before then!

📍 Donations can be dropped off at your local fire station or at our Headquarters.

The station has had 4 call outs today due to young children lighting fires in and around Market Weighton. Please can all parents make sure your children dont have access to matches or lighters or if anyone knows of children lighting fires make sure they are made aware of the risks involved. If the station is out at one of these jobs we aren't available for rtc's or a proper house fire where people could be in danger. Thanks

Tonight our crews did some off station training. This involved going to Goodmanham to set up an improvised dam in the beck to enable crews to use beck water to attack a simulated fire on top of the old railway bridge. We used a light portable pump to provide water for the firefighters approx 100 metres away on top of the bridge.

This was an incident we attended last night at 02.45. We got it as a derelict pub at Holme Upon Spalding Moor well alight. Upon arrival we called for more resources. In the end it went to 5 appliances, 2 from Market Weighton, 1 from Howden, 1 from Goole and 1 from Brough and an ALP (aerial ladder platform) from Hull. These pictures really show how vital it is to shut all doors on an evening. These are not fire doors but they still do an amazing job at stopping fire spread and smoke damage.
