Did you know that the council has a webpage updated every weekday that lists missed bin collections that day, explains why it happened and says when the missed bins will next be collected?https://www.york.gov.uk/WasteCollectionUpdates
Happy to pass on feedback if the page doesn't do what it 'says on the tin', but looks like a very useful development.

We are very proud that York is now home to the one of the largest electric bus fleets in the country.
🚌 21 new all-electric double-deckers have entered service on the York Park & Ride network.
These will help us tackle air pollution across the city.
This is the second green win in 2020 which will mean we have cleaner air in York.

York Greens have been working hard to make sure that our city delivers real reduction of air pollution in our city.
York’s clean air zone will be the first in Yorkshire.
Air pollution is linked to poor health and recent research suggests it can also cause worse coronavirus symptoms. We must do more.
For Clean Air Day we will be sharing three green wins for clean air in York.

New planters for The Groves are arriving next Wednesday afternoon - if anyone can help with getting the plants into them once the soil has been delivered - anyone who wants to help, please come along to one of the locations listed below, or to St Thomas's Church at 4pm.
Here are some pictures of the planters being inspected by Derek Gauld yesterday, at The Disabled Workers Cooperative!
From Derek:
" Hi everyone, the road closures/ street opening are starting next Weds 2nd September. The signage will be in the day before. I’m arranging for the planters and soil to be delivered to each of the 4 locations that morning (see map) with the plan to get planting later that day. The challenge now is to get people who know what they’re doing to each of the 4 locations (3 planters at each) and ready to work with volunteers on planting. It would also be helpful to hand out flyers about the planting and wider greening of the groves (and walking trail, art) and ask for more volunteers. I’ve copied in Stephen who is putting the flyer together. Stickers to acknowledge volunteer work” (“I’m helping to Green the Groves”) as well if it can be done in time.
The 4 locations are :-
1 St. John’s Crescent – NE and SW facing but fairly open
2 Penley’s Grove Street – NW and SE facing
3 Neville Terrace – W and E facing
4 Earle Street – W and E facing
After all our efforts to get planters in rather than highways barriers (and 3 more in at the March Street/ Brownlow Street junction at some point in next few weeks) we really do need to show that we are ready and willing."
If you would like to help next Wednesday, come along to St Thoma's at 4pm on Wednesday Sept 2nd and help us make The Groves an even lovelier place to live.

Keep Brunswick Growing!
We are launching a new campaign called ‘Keep Brunswick Growing’ to reach out to you all and fundraise so that we can continue to provide a safe, caring and creative community.
Could you help us by decorating a window in your house with flowers (real or crafted) in support of Brunswick?
We have put a pack together which includes a poster we would like you to display and a drawing from one of our workers, Michelle, that you or a family member can colour in.
We would love you to get creative too and make or draw your own flowers to join your window display. If you need some inspiration, we will be sharing some crafty ideas on how to make flowers from different materials on here, so keep checking!
DON'T FORGET TO SHARE YOUR CREATIONS!
You can do this on social media using or by emailing them to [email protected].
We can't wait to see how far we can spread the message and see what you can create!

Are you a keen gardener, or even a wishful gardener? With not enough space in most terraced street backyards, one option is to grow things in the alleyways as a shared project with our neighbours. Of course we leave enough space for vehicle access to the backs of properties. But there is always room for something in most back lanes.
Good for community spirit and good for your budget if you can grow some of your own food and flowers. And good for your health and wellbeing. Being outdoors (at a safe distance from others, of course) and watching things grow is so good! If you are interested in joining in a growing group of Groves residents who are starting to clear their back lane and plant things to share later on when we can mingle again - you can see our page: Markham Lanes Project or email us on
If you are interested in getting a group on your street together to join in the "greening the alleyways" movement, there is funding available from the project at York CVS - application form here:
Such a sad loss to the community of Guildhall, particularly Walmgate and the Red Tower. A truly cooperative colleague and friend. Simon will be much missed by so many.
THE man who helped restore a forgotten and derelict tower on York's City Walls and turn it into a community hub has died suddenly, aged 59.

The Green Party has 4 councillors on City of York Council. Denise Craghill (pictured above right with June Tranmer, ward coordinator) was elected as the first Green Party councillor for Guildhall ward in May 2015, when the Greens doubled their numbers on the Council from 2 to 4. Guildhall ward has 3 councillors (the other two are currently Labour).
The ward stretches from the Nestle South site between Haxby and Wiggington roads in the north down to the River Ouse between the Marygate area and Tower Gardens, taking in most of the city centre, part of Huntington Road, Monkgate, Aldwark, the Walmgate Navigation area and terraced streets off Lawrence Street.
Denise has been working on a huge range of issues since being elected, including supporting residents associations, helping residents with planning and licensing issues, dealing with individual casework and working to tackle bad air quality and promote cleaner, greener neighbourhoods, with a strong sense of community.
This page aims to bring together news and information about the ward, what is going on there and what your Green Party team is doing - with a few items on wider issue that affect all of York - and even the world beyond!
