Hey Folks,
It's been a while since we posted anything as a committee or club. The reality is that the club is in a kind of stasis, waiting for the day when we can open our doors and welcome everyone back. We do have a tentative date for that, but we're not quite ready to confirm it - the committee still needs to discuss a few things first.
In a normal year last week would have been our club's AGM, but as with last year we've been unable to host it. As soon as we're able it'll happen. With that said we wanted to take the opportunity to go over some of the things that have been happening during the past year.
TableTop Simulator! TTS has been invaluable to many of us and has enabled many of the club's more popular games to continue. Tom successfully ran a number of X-Wing leagues, and Martin has kept the Shadespire players engaged with several leagues, too. Elsewhere we have hobby WhatsApp groups and boardgames being played too. Ask here or in a relevant WhatsApp group if you'd like a game.
Committee news; as you'd expect with the AGM being postponed and the club closed the committee is largely unchanged. Peter Sidaway has Slidaway from the frankly thankless task of being the club's treasurer, and Ross Hill has joined the committee and taken on those responsibilities. We'd like to thank Peter for everything he's done for the club over the several years he's been on the committee - it's very much appreciated dude!
Hall news; we have a new home for our terrain. A custom built cupboard has been added at the back of the stage that fits 24 of our terrain boxes perfectly. It was custom made by Shaun and I imagine that on completion he stepped back and let out a great big smile of satisfaction. For those of you who don't know Shaun, he's the caretaker who never smiles. We have a second cupboard too for many of the club's other assets and equipment, and our boards remain where they were. When the club re-opens we'll have more information on this.
We'd also like to thank the Folk Hall for their patience and support - they've assured us that our Wednesday evening bookings are safe, and have helped us to navigate the often-confusing guidelines on what we can and cannot do at a COVID-safe venue.
Financial news; We have money. But honestly we're in much the same position as before the pandemic, the only real spend being the materials for the cupboards (£). With no incoming subs and no real out-going payments beyond web-hosting, we remain in good shape. We did manage to open the club for a few weeks between lockdowns with plenty of safety measures in place. I won't discuss figures here (we'll dig into that at the actual AGM).
So, yeah. It's been a long time since anything has felt normal, and I'm sure many of our members have struggled over the past year. We recognise that we're just a social club but with such a prolonged drought of social interaction we also know that our club is important to everyone who misses a weekly game and chat. We hope to be back soon, with doors wide open, Hand Gel by the bucket and smiles (behind masks). Genuinely can't wait to see people throwing dice together again.
Stay safe!
The Committee.
