Rower Katie Mole received support from Active York’s Fund For the Gifted scheme to enable her to continue training frequently. Katie is part of The British Rowing World Class Start Programme. Katie qualified for Henley, achieved a third place at the British University and Colleges Sport (BUCS) and won gold and silver at BUCS indoors.

Trampolinist Maggie-Jo Allan received a financial grant for our Fund For The Gifted scheme to support her progression. Maggie-Jo was invited to join the Yorkshire Squad for 2019 and is making an impact in national competitions where she is making some finals. Maggie-Jo is aiming to reach the English Championship Finals and achieve a top eight position.

Dinghy racer Thomas Moss received a financial grant to help him on the pathway to participate at a higher level in his sport. Tom has been selected for the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Northern Topper Zone squad and is aiming for senior RYA British Sailing. After one year of sailing Thomas was placed 5th in RYA youth and junior travellers series, 1st junior and 3rd in the Topper North West junior championships.

Tia Molesbury, who competes in karate, received support from Active York's Fund For the Gifted scheme to help her fund the requirements to compete at an international level. Tia is a member of JKA England squad and competes at regional, national and international levels. Recently Tia achieved gold and silver at the nationals, gold and bronze at the Open Championships and achieved her 2nd Dan black belt. Tia represented England in Prague at the Europeans earlier this year and she is working towards the World Championships in Tokyo in 2020.

Mia Mae Deighton, who competes in trampolining, received support from this year's Active York Fund For the Gifted scheme. Last year Mia Mae achieved second place in the British Gymnastics Championship Elite Level and English Champion in synchronised. Mia also came first place at the National League Finals and the runner up in the Ladies Open.

Owen Cook, who competes in karate, received support from this year's Fund For The Gifted scheme to help his progression and development. Owen is competing at national and international levels and represented England in the Czech Republic in the Europeans for Japan Karate Association (JKA) in both the individual and team categories of kata and kumite. Owen won silver at the UK Championships in team kumite in an older category. Owen is hoping for selection to the JKA Europeans Senior Championships and World Championships in Japan next year.

Active York has presented the latest Fund For The Gifted awards supporting York’s talented athletes.
Active York board members confirmed financial and partnership support to 11 of the city’s young athletes competing in a number of sports including; kickboxing, trampolining, cricket, golf, climbing, rowing, dinghy racing and dinghy sailing.

Congratulations to who came 2nd at the British Lead and Speed Climbing Championships 2019, 19th in the senior World Cup in Slovenia and 15th in the IFSC European Climbing Championships 2019 in Edinburgh.
All 3 of these competitions were seniors events so Hamish was competing against the very best in the world.
Well done Hamish from the Active York Team.
