Here's some money tips from Robert Redhead, gaoler of Clifford's Tower in the late sixteenth century:

💸 Use your medieval tower to run an illegal cockfighting ring.
💸 When this is discovered, try to sell stone off from the medieval tower.
💸 Purchase bunnies to chew grass and destabilise the tower to get said stone.

What do you think of this money making plan? Fortunately for us, he failed to demolish the entire castle!

The Lion, The Witch, and the Garderobe?

That's right, garderobes (or toliets) were sometimes where people stored their clothes! The word "garderobe" comes from the meaning "to guard robes" and eventually became the English wardrobe. There's been various suggestions about why this might be, including a probably fake belief that the scent of human remains drove bugs and moths away.

We've had more canine visitors outside the tower recently, so here's some to share! We've got Bentley, Oscar, Eddie and Elidir here 😍. Our staff are always delighted to welcome dogs outside the tower, even if they're not allowed inside.

Happy St. Bede's Day!

St. Bede is the patron saint of historians, due to his famous work "The Ecclesiastical History of the English People". This was written around 731AD, and gained him the title "the Father of English History". This makes today the perfect day to visit Clifford's Tower! We may not have been built when Bede was alive, but he'd no doubt be delighted you were learning about England's history. Why not try writing what you learn about when you get home to continue his legacy? ✍️
