If you want to aim higher, feel more confident and get a head start on your future, join the Army Cadets. Every year, thousands of young people and adult volunteers join the Army Cadets for fun, friendship, action and adventure. Our aim is to attract people of all backgrounds, ability and faith from our community. Yorkshire North & West (YNW) ACF is one of th

e largest Counties and is open to young people of all backgrounds and abilities aged from 12 to 18 years old. The ACF is volunteer-led from our Headquarters in Queen Elizabeth II Barracks, Strensall, York. We are also supported by a team of permanent staff employed by the Reserve Forces and Cadets Association. Our Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) are the beating heart of the ACF and reflect the communities where we live and work. We are actively recruiting volunteers who can enrich and add value to the lives of young people. Whatever the role, we will provide full induction and training. Your volunteering will be mainly evenings and weekends. Wherever you live in North or West Yorkshire, there is a Detachment near you!

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NEW OFFICER COMMANDING B COMPANY YNW ACF

Last weekend Major Mike Richardson ACF attended his first Command Conference as the new Officer Commanding B Company, wearing his crisp new Majors rank slide!

Mike was first commissioned with the CCF in 2003, before transferring to the ACF with YNW ACF in 2012.

Mike was appointed Detachment Commander of Strensall Detachment in 2013, through to 2023. In 2023 Mike took up the post of Staff Officer with B Company HQ through to October 2025, with promotion to Captain.

Mike was appointed as Officer Commanding B Company YNW ACF in October 2025, with promotion to Major.

In his civilian life Mike is the Head Chef at Nestle in York. In his spare time (!?!) Mike Volunteers as a chef for Strensall Community events, also as a gate steward for York Rugby Union Football Club.

Congratulations and good luck with your new appointment from all in YNW ACF.

SCARBOROUGH DETACHMENT ALMA SQUARE PARADE

Scarborough Detachment paraded at Alma Square in Scarborough Town centre in support of the towns Veterans.

All the Cadets displayed exemplary standards of dress, bearing and discipline. Their presentation and conduct throughout the event reflected great credit upon themselves, the Detachment, and the Army Cadet Force as a whole.

Well done to all concerned for their outstanding Community service.

SCARBOROUGH DETACHMENT A COMPANY RBL FUND RAISING EVENT

Scarborough Detachment YNW ACF had another successful coffee morning to raise funds for the Royal British Legion.

With help from their sponsors, the Detachment raised an outstanding total of £467:43p! This means Scarborough Detachment have now raised over £1000 in 2025 for charity.

An amazing effort by all concerned.

E COMPANY YNW ACF RBL POPPY APPEAL FUND RAISING EFFORTS.

Detachments from across the E Company area came out in force to raise funds for the Annual Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

As can be seen from the images cadets and CFAV's from a number of Detachments put in the time and hard work to help raise funds for the RBL Poppy Appeal 2025.
