Holy Trinity Church, Goodramgate, York

Holy Trinity Church, Goodramgate, York Holy Trinity Church - a charming historic church in the heart of York The fifteenth century stained glass is also one of the church's wonders.

The historic Holy Trinity church in Goodramgate, York, stands secluded in its tranquil and leafy churchyard, hidden away from the busy city streets. Its fabric is mainly of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries and its seventeenth century box pews, all slighly askew, are a unique and intriguing feature. Holy Trinity was closed for regular worship in 1972 and is cared for by The Churches Conservation Trust, supported by a dedicated group of friends, supporters and volunteers.

St Andrews Madrigal Group will be appearing with us on Sunday 14 June. Doors at 1900 for a 1930 start.

This is the second year they have included us in their tour, but if you have not come across a madrigal before why not take this opportunity to find out what they are all about?

A madrigal is secular vocal music popular during the Renaissance and early Baroque periods. Traditional madrigals are sung a ca****la (without instruments) with each singer performing an independent melodic line. Individual voices overlap and all are considered equally important.

St Andrews Madrigal Group will also be bringing us sacred classics and folk songs.

The performance is free, but there will be a collection towards the Keep the Gate Open appeal.

On average, more than 200 visitors come to see us each day that we are open. We love to welcome everyone!

As part of any visit, we will always tell you to watch your step. Having been here for 800 years, the ground is uneven both inside the building and outside in the churchyard.

Next time you come, you will notice a couple of changes to our front path. There is a plastic covering and new lighting in place. This is to reduce the risk of slips and ensure we can keep welcoming all our visitors.

The plan is eventually to increase the width of the stone path, but that may take some time to arrange. Thank you for your patience, understanding and ongoing support.

A big THANK YOU to all our volunteers for Volunteer Week (1 to 7 June). You volunteer welcoming people at Holy Trinity Goodramgate, in our churchyard, in costume, giving tours, out on stalls and across other venues in roles in York and beyond.

We are a little late to the party since we will be celebrating our volunteers on Thursday 4 June with the help of the Marsh Awards at our Community Supporter and Volunteer Awards.

All our volunteers are amazing in so many diverse ways! It is only thanks to them that we can keep our doors open, churchyard green and events running.

Caught the Gentleman Jack ballet at Sadler's Wells in London a few weeks ago - beautiful show. The production is still touring (at The Lowry in Salford from 4 to 6 June and The Alhambra Theatre Bradford from 3 to 5 September) so we took the programme on a little tour around our site...

Like our show, No Priest But Love, on Sunday 9 August which will be raising money for the repair of the gate used by Anne & Ann when they visited, the ballet tells the tales of Anne Lister, Marianna Belcombe (later Lawton) and Ann Walker. Ticket link for our show appears in the comments.

If you cannot attend the show, but would still like to donate, the donation link is in the comments too.

Our lovely volunteer, Marie, was there with one of her many different hats on. This evening she was in full regalia in her role as The Parish Constable of All Saints.

York Pride - what an incredible day! Feeling so grateful for all those who made badges with us, volunteered with us and chatted to us. York Mansion House - your fans for yorkgeorgianfestival kept us all cool and as well as making new friends (ysj_lgbt) we caught up with some of our old ones (MySight York). Saw barleyhallyork, theoldyorktea and Love Yorkshire Guiding working hard around town too.

Very tired and happy! If you didn’t catch us at Pride today, links for the donation page for the Goodramgate gate and the ticket link for our part of the Georgian Festival are in the comments.
