All things trains đźš‚

At any Rail incident, small or large a RIO will be mobilised due to the hazardous environment that a rail incident can involve… it’s essential that the scene is managed in proportion to the risk.

A RIO is a designated Network Rail employee who takes on-site command during railway incidents, acting as the primary liaison between rail operations and emergency services. They manage safety-critical aspects like train movement, traction power isolation, and site access. This allows us to carry out our required emergency procedures as safely as possible.

Yeovil Crews attended Yeovil Junction and met with a RIO to share situational awareness, best practices and tabletop exercises to deal with train incidents.

Crews were able to spend time familiarising themselves with train emergency systems, identifying shutdown procedures, high pressure systems and access points.

Thankfully, Rail transport incidents are rare, it’s essential that we respond effectively.

Read a brief report of an incident that Devon and Somerset attended in March in Newton Abbot.

Today, 4th May, we proudly recognise International Firefighters’ Day 🚒🔥

Here at Yeovil Fire Station, we want to take a moment to honour the courage, commitment, and sacrifice of firefighters everywhere—both past and present. This day is a chance to reflect on the vital role firefighters play in keeping our communities safe, often facing challenging and unpredictable situations with professionalism and bravery.

At midday, we held a one-minute silence to pay our respects to those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Their dedication will never be forgotten.

To our crew here in Yeovil, across the UK, and around the world—thank you for everything you do, every single day.

Stay safe, look out for one another, and take pride in the difference you make. ❤️
