Behind every aircraft in the Navy Wings collection is a dedicated team of engineers, pilots, staff and volunteers. While the aircraft may take centre stage, it is the people working behind the scenes who help ensure they are maintained, presented and ready to share their remarkable stories with the public. One of those people is Pete, who joined Navy Wings as a volunteer two and a half years ago.
With a background in engineering, Pete has been able to bring his existing skills into the hangar while developing new ones through training and mentoring from other members of the team. Like all those involved in aircraft maintenance, our volunteers work under the supervision of trained aircraft engineers, ensuring that every task is carried out in accordance with the exacting standards required in aviation.
Pete is one of a small but hugely valued group of people who generously give their time to help keep our aircraft at the exceptionally high standard for which Navy Wings has become known.
From administration and logistics behind the scenes to supporting events and helping prepare our aircraft for air shows, volunteers play an important part in almost everything we do. Even keeping the collection looking its best is a demanding task, particularly during the busy display season, and one in which our volunteers provide invaluable support. A huge than you to all our volunteers!
