Help us plan how much housing and employment space needs to be built and where & what roads, schools, shops, health centres and green spaces are needed in support, between now and 2026.

13/10/2011

We have agreed to allow more time to develop a plan that will shape the district up until 2028. The council is now aiming to finalise its report containing updated proposals for Area Committee consideration in the New Year, instead of November and December 2011.

One of the key reasons that the longer timetable has been agreed is to allow the council to thoroughly review, analyse and familiarise itself with two significant supporting documents; the Infrastructure Development Plan and the Community Infrastructure Levy report. These have been received later than scheduled from consultants.

See www.southsomerset.gov.uk/corestrategy for more.

In Autumn 2010 we held a 6 week public consultation, asking for your views to help us develop a draft plan for the district.

When complete, the plan (called the Core Strategy) will set out how much housing and employment space needs to be built and where & what roads, schools, shops, health centres and green spaces are needed in support, between now and 2026.

Just a quick update: Since the public consultation, we have begun work to adapt and refine the proposals within the plan, using the thousands of responses received. We hope to have a thoroughly considered set of adapted proposals by this winter. Once they've been discussed at Full Council, probably in December, the final plan document will go out for another 6 weeks of public consultation. Watch this space!

Thanks to you all for getting involved in this stage of the consultation.

Views gathered will play a vital role to inform and improve the next draft of the plan so that it reflects what people need and what can be achieved. The responses will be used along with updated assessments on transport needs, population data and economic information due back early next year.

29/11/2010

Just a few more days left of this period of consultation - have your say by Friday 3rd December! What next? All of the responses (nearly 2000 of you have come to our events and many more people have emailed us) will be used, along with other information as it comes in, to help shape the next draft and the draft policies within. Then there will be another public consultation before we come close to a published plan. G
