MY BRILLIANT CAREER

In this award-winning breakthrough film for Australian director Gillian Armstrong, gold was definitely struck in the casting of a young Judy Davies as headstrong youth Sybylla Melvyn, and Sam Neill as the handsome landowner who finds himself smitten with her unruly charms and keen intelligence.

Adapted from the 1901 novel of the same title by Miles Franklin, it shines a light on the trials and tribulations of a self-possessed young woman who is determined to stand on her own two feet and forge an independent path through life in spite of the well-intentioned but unwanted attempts of her grandmother to see her comfortably settled in marriage. With the recent sad loss of Sam Neill and an excellent refashioning of this film into a new Netflix mini- series, this is absolutely one to track down if you can 😍
