It will take you 30 seconds to drop a used v**e at a recycling point.

When v**es get crushed in general waste or mixed recycling, the batteries become a fire. That spark becomes a fire. Sometimes in the truck. Sometimes at the depot.

Find your nearest v**e recycling point. It could be at a supermarket, v**e shop or council site.

A little advice on safe phone charging - we all have them, but do you think twice about when and where you plug them in to charge?
Remember also buy reputable charging cables and plugs. The cheap ones are never worth it!

🚨 WHERE DO YOU CHARGE YOUR PHONE? 🚨

Many people charge their phones on beds, couches, or even under pillows—especially at night.

While modern phones and chargers have built-in safety features, charging on soft surfaces can trap heat and reduce ventilation.

🔥 Why does this matter?

Pillows, blankets, and mattresses are combustible materials. If a charger, cable, battery, or device develops a fault, the trapped heat can increase the risk of overheating and potentially start a fire.

⚠️ The risk becomes higher when using:
❌ Damaged charging cables
❌ Counterfeit or low-quality chargers
❌ Damaged or swollen batteries
❌ Devices covered by blankets or pillows while charging

✅ Charge safely:
• Place devices on a hard, stable surface
• Use original or certified chargers
• Replace damaged cables immediately
• Keep charging devices away from bedding and other combustibles
• Install working smoke alarms in your home

💡 Fire Safety Reminder:
A phone charger should not normally ignite bedding by itself. However, faulty equipment, damaged batteries, and trapped heat can create dangerous conditions that increase fire risk.

A simple change in charging habits can help keep your home and family safe. 🚒🔥

Where do you usually charge your phone? Let us know in the comments.

With the hot weather

If you unexpectedly fall into water or if you are going to wild swim, cold water shock can take your breath away.

Fight the instinct to panic and
➡ Tilt your head back
➡ Keep your ears submerged
➡ Relax and spread your arms and legs

It could save your life.

Read our public safety advice here:
https://nfcc.org.uk/fire-chiefs-issue-public-safety-reminder-ahead-of-expected-hot-bank-holiday-weather/

Fire chiefs are urging the public to take extra care as forecasts predict warmer, drier weather this bank holiday. These conditions can lead to a rise in wildfires and increased risk around open water.

Please be moor safe - Moorland fires are devastating to wildlife and our landscape - luckily this one was heading away from the property’s close by and alongside us crews from Tavistock Fire Station Princetown Fire Station Bovey Tracey Fire Station and the water carrier from Plympton Fire Station tackled this one and put it out before daybreak.

Please don’t have camp fires or BBQs on Dartmoor - please report any fires so we can get to them and tackle them before they take hold and cause a lot of damage.
