Sir Geoffrey visited the CPRE group at the Holsworthy show. They are advising the action groups who are making a stand against the Torrington

We had a great day at the Holsworthy Show yesterday.

It was a fantastic opportunity to continue spreading the word about our campaign to stop the Devon Data Centre Monster.

Thank you also to Sir Geoffrey Cox KC MP (Torridge & Tavistock) for spending time with us.

Over 3,000 people have now signed up to join our army of Registered Objectors to the AI Data Centre and BESS proposal on 850 acres of North Devon’s precious farmland.

If you’ve not yet signed it here’s the link, and please share it far and wide: https://devoncpre.org.uk/data-centre-and-battery-field

Sir Geoffrey is chasing the NHS RD&E Hospital Exeter for answers over the loss of maternity services at NDDH Barnstaple . Rest assured, he is on the case.

I have continued to receive correspondence from concerned families and expectant mothers regarding the temporary suspension of maternity services, and I fully appreciate the anxiety and uncertainty this is causing. Given the urgency of the situation, I am in constant dialogue with the Trust but I remain disappointed that I have yet to receive a response to my letter to the Secretary of State. I have today followed this up again, stressing the need for an urgent reply.

In the meantime, the Trust held the second of its weekly stakeholder updates. I was encouraged to hear that progress is being made both in securing additional locum support for maternity services at North Devon District Hospital and in identifying prospective candidates for permanent consultant posts.

There is, of course, still considerable work to be done. The usual recruitment processes and clinical safeguards must be completed before any appointments can be confirmed, and these developments represent only the first step towards restoring services. Nevertheless, all parties are working hard to bring this temporary suspension to an end as quickly as possible. I shall continue to demand that as a minimum.

It is essential that any solution not only enables services to resume safely, but also provides the resilience necessary to ensure that we do not find ourselves facing a similar situation again in the future.

In May this year, I visited the Ladywell Unit and saw first-hand the professionalism, dedication and commitment of the staff who provide this vital service. There is a vital need for more clinicians to join them. If you know of anyone who may be interested in a consultant role, details of the current vacancy can be found via the link below.

The next stakeholder update is scheduled for next week, and I will continue to keep constituents informed of developments as they arise.
