♻️ Did you know empty aerosols can be recycled in South Gloucestershire?

Deodorant, hairspray and shaving foam cans can all go in your recycling once they are completely empty.

Simply pop them in your white recycling bag and give them a second life.

Don't scrunch and throw away foil, recycle it! ✨

Kitchen foil, foil trays and foil lids can all be recycled in your white recycling bag.

✅ give it a quick clean
✅ scrunch smaller pieces into a ball about the size of a tennis ball

Aluminium can be recycled again and again, helping save energy and valuable resources.

A38 overnight resurfacing.

A reminder that we are resurfacing large sections of the A38 between Tytherington Road and Almondsbury this autumn to improve the road surface and deliver smoother, safer journeys.

To carry out the work with the least disruption to the travelling public, overnight closures will be in place 8pm to 6am between 25 September and 13 December in 4 phases:
• 25 September to 25 October: Tytherington Road to Thornbury Road (including Grovesend Road)
• 26 October to 8 November: Thornbury Road to Church Road
• 9 November to 29 November: Church Road to Hortham Lane
• 30 November to 13 December: Hortham Lane to Hollow Road

We will pause these works on the A38 when National Highways are closing the M5 for essential maintenance works this will include 30 October to 2 November.

Please plan ahead and follow signed diversion routes. We apologise for the temporary inconvenience while these improvements are carried out. For more information about this work please see the project website at https://orlo.uk/A38_Common_Place_q7hrf

As children return to school, let's all play our part in keeping journeys safe.

Young people should be encouraged to:

• get out of vehicles onto the pavement where possible
• avoid crossing in front of or behind vehicles
• wait until they have a clear view before crossing
• avoid using phones or headphones when crossing the road

Drivers should slow down when approaching school buses, taxis, and drop-off points, be prepared to stop, and watch out for children who may cross unexpectedly.

If we all look out for each other, we can help make every school journey a safer one.

Have your say on plans to ease traffic congestion on Goose Green Way which are part of a consultation to help improve journeys around North Yate.

Funding for the project is being taken from the construction of the Ladden Garden Village and Peg Hill developments to help ease congestion and boost travel - however you choose to get around.

Plans include increasing capacity at key junctions along Goose Green Way by adding new traffic lanes, changing signalling and optimising lane arrangements.

There will be a drop in event at Yate Outdoor Sports Complex, BS37 7LB, on Monday 14 September between 3.30pm and 6.30pm to talk to officers and find out more.

⚠️ Fridge and freezer collections remain suspended.

Due to a national shortage of recycling capacity, we are still unable to accept fridges or freezers at our Sort It recycling centres or through large household item collections.

We're exploring all available options and will provide updates as soon as the situation changes.

If your appliance still works, please sell, donate, or pass it on locally. Many retailers will also take your old appliance when delivering a new one.

There's just a short time remaining to give your views on our improvement plans for Gorse Covert open space.

Proposals include - entrance, pond and pathway improvements, tree works and biodiversity work to enhance the site for visitors and boost natural habitats. Our team also carried out a litter pick at the weekend to help make the site look more appealing.
