Introducing the Yarmouth Town Council Housing Needs Survey.

As part of the Neighbourhood Plan, the Working Group is working with IW Community Action to ask what housing needs people have in the Yarmouth and Thorley community.

This should include responses from people who have a connection with the area, but aren't able to live in the town and parish area.

Please share and ask anyone you know with a local connection to complete the survey!

From IWC Planning Department

"Regarding 1 Market Square, after being contacted by residents last Friday, I visited the site with the Senior Building Control Surveyor within the hour.

We found the shopfront frame had been removed and internal works commenced. We advised the tenant planning permission is required and elements of the works also require Building Regulations Approval.

I am visiting again this morning with my Enforcement colleague, and I will ask them to provide you with an update after. I will also ask the Building Control Surveyor to provide an update on the Building Regulations because he is visiting again tomorrow."

With the upcoming election, it's important to note that there are changes to the rules around voting. Everyone's vote counts and the Isle of Wight Council have circulated a useful piece that should ensure no one gets turned away from the polling station!

Heads up from Island Roads about a significant road closure coming up:

"I am writing to provide advance notice that Island Roads will be carrying out essential carriageway maintenance on Bouldnor Road, Yarmouth from Thorley Road to St Swithins Crescent commencing on 9 October for approximately 2 weeks.

The signposted diversionary route will be via Willmingham Lane for cars; however, due to the limited width of this road, this route is unsuitable for two passing heavy goods vehicles.

We have therefore written to local haulage, coach companies and Wightlink to advise that HGVs will need to plan their routes from Yarmouth to Newport via Tennyson Road, Thorley Road and Willingham Road onto Newport Road. When travelling into Yarmouth from Newport, we recommend HGVs follow Newport Road, Afton Road, School Green Road, Tennyson Road, Afton Road, School Green Road, Tennyson Road, The Avenue, Colwell Road, Hill Lane, Halletts Shute, and Bridge Road.

Advance Warning Signs (yellow noticeboards) will be placed in strategic locations leading up to the date of commencement of these works.

Please note that our programme of works is subject to change for a variety of reasons. The yellow notice boards will be updated with any date changes. "
