Making outdoor spaces more accessible.

Grass looks great, but it isn't always the easiest surface to walk or move across, particularly for people using walking aids, wheelchairs or mobility equipment.

At Ecodeck, our ground reinforcement grids can help create a firmer, more stable surface over grass and uneven ground, making outdoor areas easier to access while keeping the natural appearance of the surroundings.

They're ideal for parks, care homes, public spaces, garden pathways and other areas where ground stability is important.

It's not always about building a new path. Sometimes it's about improving the ground that's already there.

If you're working on a project where accessibility or ground conditions are a concern, we'd be happy to discuss the options.

You don't need to know the name of the product before you contact us.

In fact, quite a few conversations start with the problem instead.

“My gravel keeps moving.”

“This area turns to mud.”

“We need to create some additional parking.”

“We want to reinforce it but keep the grass.”

That's enough to start with.

We've been designing and manufacturing ground reinforcement products in the UK for over 16 years, so understanding the application is part of what we do.

Tell us what's happening with the ground, what the area will be used for and what sort of finished surface you're looking for.

From there, we can help you identify the appropriate Ecodeck system.

If you're planning a new gravel driveway, the colour of the gravel probably shouldn't be your first decision.

Start underneath it.

What's the existing ground like?

How will the area be prepared?

Where will rainwater go?

How will the gravel be retained once vehicles start driving and turning over it?

A suitable ground reinforcement grid gives loose aggregate individual cells to sit within, helping to reduce movement and create a more stable finished surface.

But the grid still relies on appropriate preparation underneath.

Choose the nice-looking gravel, of course.

Just make sure the surface below it has had the same amount of thought.

Ground needs reinforcing.

Does that automatically mean replacing the area with a completely hard surface?

Not always.

For appropriate applications, grass reinforcement grids can provide additional stability while allowing the area to retain a grassed finish.

That can be particularly useful on sites where appearance matters alongside practical requirements.

A reinforced grass surface can also form part of a permeable approach to the site when the overall installation has been designed appropriately.

Of course, there are projects where another surface will be the better choice.

The point is that needing stronger ground doesn't automatically mean losing the grass.

If you're looking at alternatives for a commercial or landscaping project, talk us through the application.

There's a point in a greenhouse project where it's worth slowing down.

Before the greenhouse goes up.

A level, stable foundation needs to be sorted first rather than trying to correct problems once the structure is already in place.

Our recycled-plastic greenhouse base grids provide support underneath the structure and can be combined with a suitable permeable geotextile membrane where appropriate.

The grid system also lifts the building slightly off the ground.

It's a simple part of the project, but it's also the part everything else is going to sit on.

If you're planning a greenhouse, get the foundation sorted first.

Membrane is one of those things people often add to an order without being completely sure what they need it to do.

Our 100 GSM woven permeable geotextile can be used as a stabilising and weed-control membrane and is suitable underneath our ground reinforcement grids for building-base support.

Because it's permeable, liquid can pass through it rather than the product acting like a waterproof sheet.

We also supply Weedshield, but that's a different, lighter product intended for basic garden applications such as flower beds and planting areas.

They're different products for different jobs.

If you're ordering a grid and aren't sure which membrane you need underneath it, ask us first.

“Which grid do I need?”

We get asked this regularly, and there isn't one answer that fits every project.

Before choosing a ground reinforcement system, we'd want to know things like:

🟢 What will the area be used for?
🟢Will the finished surface be grass or gravel?
🟢What sort of traffic will it receive?
🟢Does drainage need to be considered?
🟢What's happening with the ground at the moment?

Those answers tell us far more than simply knowing how many square metres you need.

We manufacture several ground reinforcement grid options because different applications have different requirements.

If you're a contractor, landscaper, builder or other trade customer, send us the project details and we'll help you narrow it down.

If the same patch of grass turns to mud every winter, simply reseeding it may not solve the underlying problem.

Repeated foot or vehicle traffic puts pressure on the ground.

When conditions are wet, that movement can churn the surface up and damage the grass.

Ground reinforcement works by introducing structure to the area so the surface has additional support.

That's why reinforced grass is used in applications such as sports grounds, parking areas and equestrian sites.

And importantly, reinforcement doesn't necessarily mean losing the grassed appearance.
For many projects, keeping the area looking like grass is one of the reasons for choosing this type of system.

Have an area that's becoming a recurring mud problem? Send us a photo and tell us how it's used.

Overflow parking often isn't a problem when the ground is dry.

Then the weather changes.

Repeated vehicle movements over unreinforced grass can start creating worn areas, wheel routes and mud, exactly when you need the extra parking to remain usable.

For suitable applications, ground reinforcement grids can strengthen a grass or gravel parking area without automatically replacing it with a conventional hard surface.

That's useful for places such as leisure sites, commercial properties and other locations that need additional parking.

The right system depends on the ground, frequency of use and type of traffic.

If you know an area is going to be used for parking, it's better to consider reinforcement before the surface starts failing.

Why not add our bay markers to your project? Our bay markers are the perfect addition to any overflow parking area.
