To help keep Charlie’s Corner a safe, pleasant and enjoyable space for everyone in our community, the area will be temporarily closed for approximately two months from Monday 1 June to Friday 28 August while repair work takes place.

Over time, the grassed area has been damaged by holes being dug by dogs, and to restore the space properly we will be carrying out repairs across the whole area and re-seeding the grass.

We know Charlie’s Corner is valued by many residents, and this temporary closure will give the new grass the best chance to recover and grow back strong so the space can continue to be enjoyed by everyone.

We kindly ask for your patience and support during this time by respecting the temporary closure and helping us protect the newly seeded area.

We’d like to let residents know that new speed indication signs will be installed in the village over the next couple of weeks.

These signs will be positioned along Station Road and Holeyn Hall Road to help encourage safer driving and improve road safety for everyone.

The Parish Council is also continuing to work with Northumberland County Council on all aspects of road safety across the village.

Thank you for your patience while this work is carried out, and for continuing to support efforts to keep our community safe.

The Parish Council have been working with Cllr Lawrence O'Donnell and the Highways Team at Northumberland County Council to arrange a disabled parking bay outside Wylam Institute on Church Road. We’re really pleased to see this moving forward, as it will help make the area more accessible for those who need it.

The work to install the bay is expected to take place over the next few weeks. This may involve some traffic management, and we’ll share an update on timings as soon as we can.

We’re also aware that parking along Church Road can be challenging at times, and discussions are continuing with the Highways Team at Northumberland County Council to look at ways to improve this.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to the litter pick this morning organised by Wylam Parish Council 🌿

It was a fantastic success, with nearly 30 people turning up to help — so many, in fact, that we ran out of litter pickers!

It’s wonderful to see how much our community cares about the village and the environment. Your time and effort truly make a difference. Thank you all!

Waggonway – Upcoming work

The Parish Council have been informed by Northumberland County Council of planned work by Northern Powergrid taking place on the Waggonway during the week of 23rd–27th March.

Northern Powergrid will be replacing a transformer pole currently located within the garden of a property at Stephenson's Cottages. The new pole will be relocated to the verge alongside the Waggonway.

As part of this work, there will be excavation in the verge and across a section of the Waggonway path to install the new pole and complete the necessary connections.

While the Waggonway is not expected to close, users should be aware that a short section of the path may be temporarily narrowed. Please take extra care when passing through the area.
Appropriate signage and safety barriers will be in place throughout the works, along with advance warning notices.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while these essential improvements are carried out.
