Re-posting this from Bethan at the Cross Foxes
Not a good read for anyone who thinks that ‘their pub’ is going to be there when they eventually decide to ‘go out for the evening’
This shouldn’t be ignored anymore.
161 pubs closed in just the first 3 months of 2026.
That puts us on track for around 640+ pubs gone this year 😮
And it’s not just buildings.
2,400 jobs have already disappeared.
That’s heading towards nearly 10,000 people losing their livelihoods in one year 😔
The Great British pub isn’t just another business.
It’s where friendships are built.
Where communities come together.
Where birthdays, wakes, first dates and last orders all happen under one roof.
It’s one of the few things that is truly, uniquely British 🇬🇧
But right now, the pressure is relentless 😣
Tax on beer 📈
Rising wages 📈
Energy costs 📈
Business rates 📈
Supplier increases 📈
All stacking up, all at once
This is the moment where support is needed.
Not handouts. Not sympathy.
Action.
Because once a pub is gone, it very rarely comes back.
And if we lose them at this rate… we’re not just losing pubs.
We’re losing a piece of Britain.
