WATCH OUT FOR POTENTIAL CHANGES TO RECYCLING BIN COLLECTION
Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC) has been let down by its recycling waste treatment provider. While this will hopefully be resolved before it affects the Potton area, it's important you know what is happening.
Sometimes it's down to luck. This morning, if you live in Potton, Dunton, Eyeworth, Wrestlingworth, Edworth, Tempsford, Everton or Sutton, and you remembered to put your bin out, your green-lid recycled waste will have been collected.
However, today, the contractor who treats this recycling waste suspended this service with almost no notice, allowing no time for the council to make alternative arrangements. ahead of next week. And the council cannot collect the waste if there is nowhere for it to go.
Which means all dry recycling (green lid) bin collections are temporarily paused as of Monday morning.
The council has no problems with the contractor who collects the bins, they just can't pick it up if there is nowhere for it to go.
Collections of general waste black bins, and food recycling bins are unaffected.
It's massively frustrating and officers are working flat out to try to resolve it as quickly as possible, to minimise the impact on you.
The council is expecting this to be resolved within a few days, and it will only affect the Potton area if it carries on for two more weeks.
But in case you see anything in the press, now you know.
If you're reading this and you live further afield AND your green-lid recycling WOULD be collected next week, either hold on to it, until the issue is resolved, or you can book a slot and take it to the local tidy tip (HWRC).
I will update you as soon as there is more news, and if you subscribe to the council's email updates, you will get news there as well. More on that here: https://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/info/79/contact_us_-_contact_central_bedfordshire_council/897/email_updates
