When temperatures rise, we all tend to use more water. At the same time, natural water levels can drop, putting pressure on our system.

Our leakage teams are working hard to find and fix leaks, keeping the water flowing through our systems. Last month alone, 1787 leaks were fixed, saving over 14 million litres of water a day across our network. That's the equivalent of around 47,000 paddling pools! 🛁

But it’s not just about what we do. Small changes at home can make a big difference too.
✅ Turn off taps while brushing
✅ Use a watering can to water plants
✅ Fill up a bucket to wash your car

Just look at the difference between these two pictures!😯

Bewl Water reservoir supplies over 2.5 million customers. It may look full now, but this time last year told a very different story👉

After a wet winter helped refill supplies, we’ve had a very dry spring, with little rain to top them up. And with more dry weather ahead, we all have a part to play in helping water levels last through the summer💦

Simple changes at home can make a big difference, like taking shorter showers, turning the tap off when brushing your teeth and only running full loads in your washing machine or dishwasher.

Did you know the South East is one of the driest regions in the UK? By 2030, demand for water could exceed supply during dry periods if we don’t act now.

While reservoirs may look full after winter rainfall, this spring has been particularly dry. That’s why it’s important we all keep using water wisely to help maintain levels through the summer.

We’re investing more than ever to protect water supplies now and for the future, including developing new sources. But small changes at home can make a big difference—like turning off the tap while brushing your teeth, taking shorter showers, or reusing water where you can.

Let’s clear a few things up about bathing water 🌊

There’s a lot of conversation about water quality in the South East, but the truth is things have improved year after year - and today, 89% of bathing waters in our region are rated ‘Good’ or ‘Excellent’ by the Environment Agency.

From how water quality has improved over time to how we’re investing for the future, there’s more to the story than you might think.

👉 Swipe through for a closer look at some of the most common myths, and the reality.

We know there’s still more to do – that’s why we’re investing £1.5 billion in our Clean Rivers and Seas plan to reduce storm overflow releases.

🌧️ Rain on the way? Now’s the perfect time to get your water butts ready and make the most of every drop 💧

Did you know there are around 23 million gardens in the UK? If each garden added a small, slow drain water butt, together we could save over 2 billion litres of rainwater every time it rains 🌿

The water can be used in lots of everyday ways:
🔵Watering gardens
🔵Washing cars and bikes
🔵Cleaning patios, paths, and outdoor furniture

🚿 This Water Saving Week, it’s the perfect time to think about how simple, informed choices can add up to big savings.

New government-backed water efficiency labels (rated A-F) are being introduced – similar to the energy labels you’ll already know, making it clearer how much water products like taps, showers and toilets use.

At Southern Water, we fully support this approach. Giving customers simple, easy-to-understand information helps everyone make more water-efficient choices, reducing pressure on our water resources while helping to lower bills at the same time.

With water under increasing strain, these everyday decisions really do matter and together they can make a big difference.

💧 This week is Water Saving Week 2026

Looking after every drop matters, especially for our globally rare chalk streams.

Through the FReSH (Flow Resilient Sustainable Habitat) Water Programme, delivered by Wessex Rivers Trust and funded by Southern Water, over 20 sites have been restored so far across the Test, Dever, Dun, Bourne Rivulet and Meon. This £10 million, long term programme is now at its halfway point and is already helping rivers recover from decades of pressure caused by drought, climate change, reduced flows and poor water quality.

By working closely with local landowners, the Environment Agency and Natural England, the programme is restoring natural river processes, improving habitats and building resilience so these chalk streams can better withstand future droughts.

This Water Saving Week is a reminder that saving water at home goes hand in hand with protecting the rivers we all depend on – today and for generations to come.
