If you are intending to come and visit our magnificent Lake District, especially Wasdale – please think before parking!

During the awe-inspiring scenery, it's easy to overlook the consequences of thoughtless parking. However, we ask that you please park considerately, and actively contribute to the smooth running of the local areas.

Our Civil Enforcement Officers will be out in Wasdale over the bank holiday weekend to support safe, responsible and legal parking. Working in partnership will colleagues from the Lake District National Park, The National Trust and Cumbria Tourism.

One vital aspect to bear in mind is the accessibility of emergency services and tractors. If gaps are too small vehicles may struggle to navigate through, hindering the farmers' ability to care for their animals, and in an emergency situation, every second counts. Regrettably, if an ambulance or other emergency service is unable to reach its destination due to obstructed roadways, it could lead to dire consequences.

Please, think, before you park! Use one of the many car parks or use public transport to get there!

Any vehicles that are parked in violation or causing an obstruction then action may be taken by the issuing of a Penalty Charge Notice or removal of the vehicle. If you have a motorhome please do not use the area due to width restrictions.

Why not take the shuttle bus? The Cockermouth-Buttermere shuttle bus is back from Saturday 4 May and will run every weekend and bank holiday until 1 September. The first bus leaves from Cockermouth at 7.35am and the last bus leaves from Buttermere at 7.24pm. More details and timetables are here: https://ow.ly/kWVG50RvxMw

There is also a train that links up with Ravenglass train station, where there's lots of parking and you can travel along the scenic Cumbria Coast railway line. Check train times before you travel on National Rail: https://ow.ly/AfHc50RvxPG

If walking in Wasdale (and anywhere else!) please be adventure smart. Ask yourself three questions before you set off:
- Am I confident I have the KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS for the day?
- Do I know what the WEATHER will be like?
- Do I have the right GEAR?

THANK YOU for being considerate, and remember
