NT Brockhampton

NT Brockhampton Brockhampton manor is a rare survival of a medieval moated house built around 1425. All of the walks on the estate are way-marked.

Traditionally farmed, the 1,700 estate runs over undulating hills and ancient woodlands. Opening dates and times vary throughout the year for Brockhampton, please check the opening dates and times on the website, before you visit, to avoid being disappointed. Dogs are welcome at Brockhampton but must be kept on a lead at all times due to grazing livestock and the estate being a site dedicated to nature conservation and habitat.

We’ve been reviewing how we connect with our followers on Facebook and we’ve decided that the best approach is to have just one account that covers all the properties in Herefordshire. You’ll still get regular updates and news about Brockhampton but there will also be news from Berrington Hall, Croft Castle and The Weir Garden.

To do this we’re going to close this account and ask you to follow the National Trust Herefordshire account here instead. It’s run by the same people who cover Brockhampton. This account will be closing on 31 May.

Thank you for following and supporting us here - we would love to see you on the National Trust Herefordshire account. Your generous support of the National Trust places in Herefordshire enables us to continue caring for nature, beauty and history at each of these unique and special places. Thank you.

Free archaeology talk on Saturday 30 May at Stretton Sugwas Village Hall. Email [email protected] to secure your place.

Following last year’s successful archaeological excavation at NT The Weir Garden in Herefordshire, Midlands and East of England Archaeologist Viviana will deliver a public talk to share the results of the excavation, including results from specialist assessments, to volunteers, local residents and local groups in Stretton Sugwas on Saturday 30 May.

The excavation, carried out during the Festival of Archaeology in 2025, aimed to characterise the nature of a Romano-British double-ditched enclosure, first identified by aerial photography in the 1970s and later confirmed by geophysical survey at Old Weir Farm.

The project was driven by the desire to research and preserve by record a site threatened by river erosion and climate change. Equally it was designed to offer a safe and accessible place for volunteers and local groups to participate in archaeological research, contributing to the archaeological and cultural story of their community.

Viviana says “This is a special project and one that took time to plan properly because we wanted to make sure the event was specifically programmed and delivered to and for local residents, local groups and our funders who interact with this wonderful landscape daily. The historic and cultural landscapes that surround us are often challenging to read because there are no obvious clues on the ground, or because they are not accessible.

These types of events are extremely important as they give us an opportunity to tell, or remind of, forgotten, lost or untold stories of past societies and landscapes; to connect sites through research but also to connect people and places with the conservation and nature restoration work we are delivering”.

Please email [email protected] if you would like to attend.

Birdwatchers, we’d love your help. We’ve spotted a wagtail near the toilets at Brockhampton and we’re keen to confirm exactly what it is. While we’ve shared a grey wagtail photo here for reference, the habitat around the sighting could point towards a yellow wagtail, which favours open grassland, orchards and farmland.
Grey wagtails are usually found close to fast‑flowing water, which we don’t have nearby – but nature always likes to keep us guessing.

If you’re visiting Brockhampton and spot this wagtail, let us know what you think.👀📸

This Bank Holiday weekend, bring the whole family along for some Easter fun at Brockhampton! Enjoy our Easter trail winding through the orchards, now beautifully in blossom. There’s plenty to explore with family friendly walks, café, a spotter challenge inside the manor house and a second-hand bookshop to browse.

Our Easter trail runs until Sunday 12 April. Unfortunately, we we’ve run out of Easter eggs sooner than planned – with only a few clutches left, we may have run out by the time you come to visit. You can still come and enjoy the Easter trail free of charge, but egg prizes are no longer available.
