This morning I met with Lauren, Manager of Lyppard Hub, and a Community Engagement Officer from Worcester City Council to talk through some of the challenges involved in maintaining the incredible range of activities the Hub provides.

From toddlers and families to young people, older residents and those who may otherwise experience loneliness or isolation, Lyppard really does serve people across the generations — and well beyond Warndon Villages.

I’ve been keen to bring people together and keep these conversations moving forward, because protecting the long-term future of our community centres matters enormously to me.

It was great to see our Community Engagement Officer so impressed by everything happening at Lyppard. She has committed to continuing to work with the Hub and exploring potential funding opportunities that could help sustain and develop its work into the future.

There are no quick fixes, but this was another positive step.

I’ll keep working with the Hub, Council officers and others to make sure Lyppard has every opportunity to continue doing what it does so well — bringing people together and strengthening our community.

A couple of hours on the doorstep today demonstrated just how varied the work of a local councillor can be.

We listened to residents facing some incredibly difficult personal circumstances, offered reassurance and practical support, and spent time with someone who had initially been nervous about opening her door—but was very glad she had. I’ve also taken away a piece of casework concerning additional household waste capacity because of medical needs.

Alongside this, with the welcome support of a Lib Dem volunteer, we knocked on many more doors and heard a wide range of views.

One resident told us very firmly that he would never vote Lib Dem. We didn’t argue with him. We listened to his concerns about the direction of the country and gave him the time to explain how he felt. By the end of our conversation, he shook our hands and thanked us for listening. We may not have changed his vote, but we had a respectful and worthwhile conversation—and that matters too.

Meanwhile, our wonderful army of deliverers is busy getting our latest Focus leaflet through doors across the area. I’m enormously grateful to every volunteer giving their time to help us keep residents informed and connected.

Door-knocking and delivering leaflets aren’t simply about asking people how they intend to vote. They’re about being visible, listening without judgement, identifying where help may be needed and making sure people know they haven’t been forgotten.

That is community politics—and today was a powerful reminder of why we do it.

🌳 Save the Claines Green Belt

Our local Claines councillors are proud to support Save the Claines Green Belt, an independent, community-led group bringing residents together to protect our Green Belt.

The campaign is open to everyone, regardless of political affiliation or none.

Please take a look at the campaign website, get involved and help spread the word.

Property developer Summix is is promoting plans for up to 800 houses in Claines in the Green Belt between the Ombersley Road and Droitwich Road. This would completely destroy our local countryside, valuable agricultural land and irreversibly change our rural landscape. We are the team opposing this development !

Extreme heat is hitting communities across the country, yet Andy Burnham has been bafflingly silent.

After the UK’s hottest summer on record, we need to see far more action.

We need cross-party talks to protect Britain from worsening extreme weather.
