Headway Hertfordshire hosted the Headway Worcestershire ABI Games™ Roadshow – and what a fantastic day it was at University of Hertfordshire Sports Village!

We brought our ABI community together for a programme of inclusive, fun, and empowering sporting activities for everyone affected by acquired brain injury. It was wonderful to see so many people taking part, connecting, and enjoying every moment together.

We were also truly honoured to be joined by Headway Hertfordshire Limited Patron, Alan Smith – former Arsenal and England footballer ⚽and Angus Fraser MBE, English cricketer. Alan and Angus gave up their time to come along, meet the team, join in the activities, and show their unwavering support for disability sport. Their presence made the day extra special and brought so much joy to everyone involved.

A huge thank you to John Archer and his incredible team , whose hard work, passion, and dedication made this event possible. They created something truly unforgettable – a day full of smiles, achievement, and community spirit.

Events like this remind us how important connection, activity, and support are in rebuilding lives after brain injury.

Featuring in our ABI Games™ 2025 video is Amber Schonert — South African international rugby player and Leicester Tigers prop, whose presence helped capture something truly special about the day.
Moments like these highlight more than just sport. They reflect the camaraderie, connection and shared understanding that sits at the heart of the ABI Games™.
The video beautifully demonstrates how individuals from different backgrounds — from elite athletes to people rebuilding their lives after acquired brain injury — come together as one community. It’s a reminder that these events are not just about participation, but about belonging, encouragement, and lifting each other up.
Tomorrow, we’re incredibly proud to see the very first Headway Worcestershire ABI Games™ Roadshow of 2026 take place, hosted by our fantastic partners at Headway Hertfordshire Limited.
20 of our clients and staff will be travelling to take part in this fully inclusive event — a day that celebrates ability, not disability, and brings the ABI community together through sport and connection.
A huge thank you to John Archer and the entire Headway Hertfordshire Limited team for their commitment and dedication in making this happen. We know first-hand the effort, planning and passion it takes to deliver an event like this, and we are so grateful for all you’ve done to bring it to life.
Thank you also to all the sponsors and supporters who have backed this roadshow — your generosity makes opportunities like this possible, helping people living with acquired brain injury to rebuild confidence, reconnect, and thrive.
We can’t wait to see the impact of the day and to follow the journey of the ABI Games™ Roadshow as it grows across the country 💙

Last night, Headway Worcestershire had the pleasure of being invited to the opening of No43 – a fantastic new eatery on The Tything, Worcester, serving delicious sharing boards and tapas-style dishes.
It was a wonderful evening, made even more special by seeing the incredible work of our talented woodworker, The Blind Craftsman (Mark), proudly on display. Mark has worked closely with Julia Williams and Justin from The Feathers to create the beautiful furnishings now showcased within the venue.
We are incredibly proud to see his craftsmanship recognised in such a vibrant new space.
A heartfelt thank you to the team at No43 for showcasing Mark’s work and for allowing us to raise awareness of acquired brain injury and the abilities of those we support every day.

🧠 Action for Brain Injury Week | 18th – 24th May 2026
At Headway Worcestershire, we are proud to support individuals living with acquired brain injury (ABI) across our community and county.
For many people and their families, leaving the hospital can feel overwhelming. Too often, individuals are discharged without knowing where to turn, whom to ask, or what support is available.
That’s where we come in.
We are here to provide:
*Advice and guidance
*Specialist care and support
*A welcoming community that understands
No one should feel lost or alone after an acquired brain injury. Help us reach those who need us most so that everyone knows support is available during difficult times.

Our Paddle & Hike Challenge Training Continues! 🚣‍♀️⛰️
Saturday marked our second training session for the Paddle & Hike Challenge, organised and supported by Your Adventure Challenge.
Lisa, Fiona, Glen, and I were put through our paces by the experienced coach Sarah, building both confidence and skills as we prepared for the big day.
Next on the agenda is some proper hill walking training as we gear up towards 26th July 2026.

🎩 Friday 15th May – Hats for Headway Worcestershire 🎩
This Friday, wear your hat with pride for Hats for Headway Worcestershire and help us raise awareness and understanding of acquired brain injury (ABI).
A hat might seem simple, but it can spark conversations, challenge assumptions, and shine a light on a hidden disability that affects so many individuals and families across our communities.
So grab a hat, take a photo, start a conversation, and stand with us in support of people living with ABI across Worcestershire. 💙

Last night, in the evening sunshine, we held our first canoe practice for the Headway Worcestershire Paddle & Hike Challenge.
Glen Jansen, Lisa Hartland, Fiona Whitehead, and Mandie Fitzgerald spent time building on technique and confidence as we prepared for Saturday’s next training session on the River Wye. The event will be taking place on Sunday, 26th July 2026.
It’s not too late to sponsor our efforts to provide the amazing care and support we provide to our ABI community across Worcestershire.
