Talk to us today about fostering for Worcestershire 0800 028 2158 Worcestershire Fostering is the local authority fostering service for Worcestershire County Council. We only provide foster care for Worcestershire children meaning you are far more likely to be successfully matched with a local child or sibling group. You will have access to a fantastic local support when you join our network of lo

cal foster carers. We are continually looking to recruit a range of families to join our family of foster carers. The best part about fostering is knowing that you are making a positive difference to a child or young person’s life. You will be helping them to build a better future, by providing care and support at a time when they need it most. This Pride Month, we're resharing John’s story, a single male foster carer who makes a real difference to the lives of the teenagers he cares for.

Children in care benefit most from homes where they feel safe, valued and understood. Loving, nurturing and empathetic carers are what truly matter. LGBTQ+ carers, like all carers, bring warmth, stability and commitment, along with lived experiences that support thoughtful, trauma-informed care.

For some young people, especially those exploring their identity, seeing themselves reflected in their carer can be incredibly powerful. It can help them feel accepted, reduce isolation and show them they are valued exactly as they are. Representation matters, not just in society, but in everyday life at home.

John’s story is a reminder that there is no one ‘type’ of person who can foster, just people who care.

As John says: "My gender and sexuality has not, so far, been a barrier to doing the best job. The kids don’t care. They don’t make the same judgments some adults make."

Emily, a previous Summer Reading Challenge volunteer, who now works for the library service, shared her experience: “Volunteering has been incredibly rewarding, and I continued for five years. It really helped build my confidence in talking to others and managing my time while dedicating myself to a challenge that helps so many children!”

As a volunteer, you will have a chance to gain valuable skills and experience, make new connections, and most importantly, have fun!

We had a great time at the Wyre Forest - Forestry England following the 'Room on a Broom' trail during half term.

Cool in the shade of the tree canopy, carers chatted, children played and we all enjoyed ☕️ and a picnic.

As Foster Care Fortnight comes to a close, we have loved bringing this year’s theme, ‘This is Fostering’, to life.

Over the past two weeks, we have shared real, everyday moments from our amazing foster carers. From the simple routines like doing the washing and making meals, to the valuable support groups and events that bring everyone together, it all shows what fostering truly looks like.

A big thank you to Ann for sharing these lovely photos from our peer-led group in Evesham. With bacon butties and scones to celebrate Foster Care Fortnight, it was a great chance for carers to relax, chat and support each other, while little ones enjoyed playing together.

These moments of connection mean so much, and they are a reminder that no one fosters alone.

Thank you to all our foster carers for everything you do, every single day. 💚
