✨ Dog of the Month ✨

RPD Pippa is a three year old Dutch Herder. She suffers with exercise induced hyperthermia, which in short means her body temp rises with exercise, but unlike other dogs, she is unable to regulate her temperature and therefore overheats rapidly to dangerous levels. This is, sadly, why Pippa has been retired at such a young age.

She is registered with the charity Hero paws - Life AFTER service - a military and emergency service working dog charity. Pippa's handler (dad), PC James Pilling, says, "I share information on her Instagram page which is about her condition and they regularly share the info on their pages. In return they will support and have offered Pippa specialist interventions to assist with her condition."

Pippa is fed a raw diet which is natural and supports her health best. 'She absolutes loves her ball, totally obsessed. She will carry it all day long if she could' 🥎

RPD Pippa has siblings, some who are serving Police Dogs and others are in the private sector 🧑‍🎓 🐕‍🦺

PC Pilling says, "She is fiercely, and I mean fiercely protective of me, and in retirement that hasn't changed! Since retiring she gets plenty of controlled exercise. Utilising her skills learnt in the police, she still has regularly controlled work in search, tracking etc, which assists in burning off some energy in a controlled way."

Fun facts about Dutch Herders: They were originally proper all purpose farm dogs. They would herd sheep, guard property, keep chickens away from crops, pull carts, or whatever else needed doing. They are ridiculously trainable, have three coat varieties (long, short, rough), and are extremely loyal 🐶 💙
