📢 Councillors back two council plan!
Last night councillors overwhelmingly backed an ambitious blueprint to radically improve council services and outcomes for residents, businesses and visitors across Worcestershire.
The Transforming Worcestershire Plan will be submitted to the Government by November 28 as part of the Local Government Reorganisation process.
At the heart of the plan is an opportunity to do things differently to deliver lasting financial sustainability, improved outcomes and unlock future opportunities.
The plan is based on what residents, community organisations, businesses, and key partners told us during our extensive public engagement this summer.
✨Key features of the plan✨
🆕 Create two new unitary councils to run all services for their part of the county – one for North Worcestershire and one for South Worcestershire. This is the option backed by the majority of Wychavon residents during the Shape Worcestershire public engagement.
🛡️Shift public services from crisis response to a prevention-focused approach.
📈Drive long-term financial sustainability through a focus on outcomes.
🤝Create communities that feel more connected and empowered by keeping decision-making close to them.
⏩Deliver local services that respond faster to everyday issues.
🛠️Reshape support for vulnerable adults so they can live healthier, happier and safer lives.
👩👩👦New approaches to supporting children and families that enable them to stay together.
🧑🎓Provide young people with better access to skills and jobs.
🏚️Housing provision that doesn’t just provide shelter but supports healthier lives.
🔓Economic strategies tailored to the needs of people and businesses in local areas, to unlock growth.
