A talk by the author of a groundbreaking study (featured on the BBC’s ‘Digging for Britain’) looks at what the archaeology of horses shows us about the development of the armoured mounted knight in the Middle Ages.

As we say goodbye to summer and welcome a new school year, we want to wish all our young library customers an amazing journey ahead! Embrace every moment, create beautiful memories, and make the most out of this exciting time.

Yesterday, we had some of our regular rhyme timers visit the library rhyme time for the last time before they head off to reception next week. It was a bittersweet moment, and we couldn’t help but feel emotional—time really does fly! 💖

We’ll miss you all but can’t wait to hear about your adventures in school. Happy learning! 🎉✨

Wiltshire Libraries welcomed 6050 children to the , enjoying the rhythm of this summer.

If your child is aged 4-11 and has signed up online, don't forget they can also pop into their local library to register and collect free stickers and rewards as they complete their reading journey.

⏰ There's still time! The Challenge runs until this Saturday 5 September, so children can continue collecting their stickers and earn their final rewards, including certificate and medal. Coming soon – Adult Reading Challenge

Are you 16+ and up for a Challenge? All you need to do is pick up your free Reading Challenge bookmark and read 3 books. Every book you read earns a stamp. Once you’ve earned 3 stamps, hand your bookmark back to any Wiltshire library to be entered into the prize draw.

🏆 First prize: 1x £50 book voucher
🏅 Two runner up prizes: 1x £25 book voucher each

The Challenge runs between 5 September to 5 December 2026. Books, eBooks and audio/eAudiobooks all count. Get reading to be in with your chance of winning!
