🚌 A little addition for our bus travellers 🚌

Along with the two 5-a-side football goals, today we have also installed two new lidded bins, one at each of the bus shelters on the Reading Road.

The Council took the decision to place new lidded bins, rather than the open topped bins from the village green after they were removed and we discovered a rather unpleasant surprise at the bottom — stagnant rainwater and a collection of old poo bags! 😬 Needless to say, it wasn’t the most pleasant experience.

We hope these new bins will be a useful addition for residents using the bus shelters, and help to keep the area clean and tidy.

Please do make use of them and help us keep our village looking its best. 🌳

Many thanks to Oxfordshire County Council for giving us permission to install in this location.

⚽ New 5-a-side football goals! ⚽

We’re delighted to say that our two new 5-a-side football goals have now been constructed and are available to use! 🎉

We were very happy that the weather had cooled down a little while we were putting them together – much better conditions for construction than the recent heat! 😎

A huge thank you to one of our keen local football players, who gave us some much-appreciated help with getting the goals constructed and ready for play. It’s fantastic to see local enthusiasm helping to improve facilities for everyone.

We’d also like to say a big thank you to South Oxfordshire District Council for their Everyone Active grant, which part-funded the purchase of the goals. Their support has helped us provide better facilities for local children and football enthusiasts to get active and enjoy the game. ⚽👏

The full-sized football goal has now been moved to the side of the playing area. Unfortunately, three of its wheels are broken, so the Parish Council will need to decide what to do with the goal going forward.

If you move the full-sized goal out to use it, please make sure you put it back to the side afterwards. This will help keep the area tidy and make sure the goal is safely out of the way until the Council has decided what to do with it.

We hope the new goals get plenty of use – and we look forward to seeing lots of football being played! ⚽

🌳 Tree works taking place today 🌳

You may notice that significant works are being carried out to one of our larger trees today.

Unfortunately, the tree’s roots were unavoidably damaged during the installation of the resin path. As a result, and out of an abundance of caution, we have taken the decision to severely cut back the tree.

Given the size of the tree and its position immediately adjacent to the school, we feel it is important to take a precautionary approach and endeavour to ensure that there is no risk of damage to the school, its grounds, or those using the area should the damaged root system affect the tree’s stability.

We appreciate that seeing such a large and established tree cut back so significantly can be upsetting, and this is not a decision that has been taken lightly. However, the safety of the neighbouring school, children, staff and everyone using the surrounding area must come first.

🔥 Help prevent wildfires in our local green spaces 🔥

With the continued hot, dry weather, our parks, playing fields and open spaces are extremely dry and the risk of fire is high.

A small spark can quickly become a serious fire, so please help protect our community, wildlife and countryside:

🔥 Please don’t light bonfires
🍖 Avoid disposable barbecues
🎆 Don’t use fireworks
🚬 Dispose of ci******es carefully
🗑️ Take litter home if bins are full

Please take extra care while enjoying our open spaces — a little consideration from everyone can make a big difference.

PCSO Claire Hewett and Graham Davey have been trying to increase their patrols in Woodcote.

They will endeavour to patrol again this evening - Friday 14th August 2026.

They will be in a marked vehicle and if you see them, please feel free to flag them down.

During the patrol we intend to visit the Village Hall Car Park, Co Op Store and Wood Green Play area. They can't give times but hope ot be around from 6:30pm

Whilst helping to prevent crime, they will also be offering advice, discussing local issues and answering any questions you may have. So, stop to say hello if you see them!

🌳 Trees Need You! 🌳

Trees are such an important part of our local environment — providing shade, helping clean our air, supporting wildlife and creating greener spaces for everyone to enjoy. 💚

If you’ve planted a young tree, or are thinking about planting one, now is a great time to give it a little extra care. 🌱💧

💧 Water young trees regularly during hot, dry weather
🌳 Plant native species where you have space
🍂 Add mulch around the base to help retain moisture and protect the roots

Even one tree can make a difference — and together, the small things we do can have a big impact on nature in Woodcote.

Take a look at our graphic for some simple tips on helping young trees thrive. 🌿
