This Volunteers Week, (1-7 June) we're shining a light on our fabulous Volunteers! 🎉

Here's Keith and Anna Chamberlain, Volunteers at Fairoak Ward, Cannock Chase Hospital.

Upon retirement, they were looking for something interesting to do in their spare time. Having volunteered for the Trust for just over three years, they had no idea how much pleasure it would give them, to help people in their time of need, and support ward staff.

Some of their tasks include ordering meals, preparing trays and utensils for mealtimes, and clearing up afterwards. They keep linen trollies supplied, serve drinks, replenish stocks, interact with patients, and clear dirty linen. Staff and patients have labelled them the “ward entertainment”.

They said: “We hope we help to put patients at ease in their time of need and give them a laugh if nothing else. Volunteering helps keep us fit and active. It makes us feel good and is extremely rewarding for the soul.

“It gives us more purpose and we’re so glad to be in a position where we can help others.”

Thank you Keith and Anna 👏⭐

Join us as we celebrate Dietitians Week, recognising our dietetic colleagues and the
impact they have every day.

Our dietetic team of dietitians, support workers and students are highly skilled
professionals, but what truly defines them is how much they care.

The theme for Dietitians Week 2026 is more than just a job, reflecting a career that is a
true vocation - grounded in empathy, science and service.

Thank you for all you do to support our patients.

For our last stop of the day, we have popped in to see Dr Stoves, GP and Practice Director.

Here's what he told us: "I have worked at Alfred Squire Road Surgery, a practice of 8,300 patients, for over 30 years. Wednesfield is a close-knit community which takes pride in their ‘village’ and their surgery.

“I have been lucky to have worked with excellent colleagues and the team ethic that attracted me to the practice 30 years ago remains strong.

“I still enjoy the clinical aspect of primary care, involving a minimum of 30 face-to-face appointments per day.

“The days are never dull or repetitive and you can never anticipate what challenges you are going to face.

“The cornerstone of general practice is continuity of care, much valued by patients and clinicians alike.”

Thanks for sharing Dr Stoves!

We’re now moving on to meet the Primary Care Network Call Hub – this team takes all phone calls within the Primary Care Network. This includes anything from general queries, assisting patients with the triage form or booking appointments with the Nurses📞

Lisa Burke, Call Hub Manager said: “We are often the first point of contact for many patients and it’s rewarding to assist people as best as we can in order to meet their needs. The whole team is very dedicated.

“Patients are encouraged to use the online triage form if they are able to do so – this ensures the lines are free for vulnerable patients, elderly patients who may not be able to complete the triage form, or those with language barriers.”

The team keep appointments running smoothly. Thanks team!🏆
