We are delighted to announce that 605 (County of Warwick) Squadron has been awarded the Clyde PR Trophy as part of the RAuxAF Honours & Awards 2025/26.

This award recognises the RAuxAF unit judged to have delivered the highest performance in Public Relations over the past year.

The Clyde PR Trophy was donated by former OC, and later HAC of 7644 Sqn, Air Cdre Alex Dickson, and is awarded annually to the unit demonstrating excellence in promoting the RAF and RAuxAF.

Citation Summary:

No. 605 (County of Warwick) Squadron delivered an outstanding and sustained programme of public relations activity, significantly enhancing the visibility and reputation of both the Squadron and the wider RAuxAF. Through a coordinated and professional approach, the unit effectively showcased operational output, training activity and personnel achievements across multiple platforms and audiences. Their messaging was consistent, authentic and aligned with RAF priorities, strengthening engagement with stakeholders and supporting recruitment and retention outcomes. The Squadron demonstrated innovation, discipline and clear leadership in the delivery of communications, ensuring PR activity remained an integral part of operational output. This comprehensive approach marked 605 Sqn as the leading RAuxAF unit in Public Relations performance for the award year.

Sgt Chris, responsible for Engagement/Media activities on 605 Sqn, added "We are delighted to receive this award in recognition of our activities, both on Social Media and the many engagement events we attend. Our Engagement Team PTVR volunteers and HQ staff, really do go above and beyond to showcase the best of the RAF Reserves."

Train hard, fight easy…

Last weekend, members of 605 Squadron deployed to the Royal Air Force Cosford training area, for Exercise BEAR NECESSITIES.

This was the first iteration of a collective training package designed to refresh RAF Reserves personnel in operating in field conditions, planning and preparing to work away from their usual environment, understanding operational limitations, and developing the flexibility required of a modern Royal Air Force warfighting Service.

Throughout the exercise, personnel operated under realistic deployed conditions, building confidence, resilience, and teamwork, while assuring Officer Commanding 605 Sqn, that they remain ready to deliver at readiness.

Serial 1 focused on Individual Readiness Training (IRT) Module 2, delivered by RAF Regiment specialists from Cosford’s Force Protection Training Flight. Reservists undertook a range of force protection activities, enhancing their ability to operate safely and effectively in challenging environments.

Serial 2 saw personnel establish routine within a deployed setting, reacting to a series of scenarios. This included operating in field conditions, living on operational rations, and practicing the core skills required on deployment - building on previous training such as Exercise CENTURION FORT.

The exercise was extremely well received. One squadron chef commented: “This was a unique opportunity for all trades to work together, creating a brilliant atmosphere. Operating as one team was hugely beneficial for morale and teamwork. Completing IRT Module 2 in a realistic environment, rather than a classroom, made a real difference.”

605 Squadron will now build on these essential skills, continuing to develop a capable, adaptable force, ready to meet future challenges. We extend our sincere thanks to the Force Protection Training Flight, for delivering such high-quality training.

Interested in being part of a team like this? Whether you're looking for challenge, development, or the opportunity to serve alongside like-minded professionals, 605 Squadron welcomes those ready to step forward. More information can be found here -

WHAT IS BASIC TRAINING LIKE IN THE RAF RESERVES?

Basic Recruit Training Course (BRTC) is the first step to becoming a trained RAF Reservist. It delivers the same standards as Regular RAF basic training, condensed to fit around civilian commitments.

BRTC is delivered in two parts:

Part 1 – Initial Training
Part 1 is often completed at your local RAF Reserves unit or at a regional Reserve Support Wing (RSW) training centre. Training is typically delivered over around 10 days, although the exact format can vary depending on the unit. Delivery may include consecutive days, split training periods or weekends.
This phase covers drill, kit preparation, classroom-based learning and includes fitness testing such as the Multistage Fitness Test (MSFT), alongside military inspections.

Part 2 – Residential Training
A 15‑day residential course at RAF Halton, focusing on fieldcraft, weapon handling, physical training and military exercises. Training is fast‑paced and designed to prepare and qualify personnel, with opportunities to graduate alongside Regular RAF recruits.

Standards & Fitness
Training prepares you for life in the Royal Air Force and is delivered to standards aligned with Regular personnel. This includes field exercises, resilience training (including CBRN awareness), kit preparation and inspections.

Eligibility
Applicants must be aged 18–54, meet nationality and residency requirements, and be medically and physically fit.

Logistics Drivers from 605 Sqn Reserves have been sharpening skills in recent months, gaining qualifications and pushing standards higher than ever before.

From General Service Driver Module 2 (tactical elements), to hands-on training in camouflage and concealment of vehicles, our drivers have been adapting to operational focus and professionalism, in various environments.

Alongside this, a couple of team members have achieved Category C+E and Category D licences — expanding capability across the Squadron and strengthening our operational readiness.

New qualifications, enhanced skills and greater capabilities, ensure that 605 Squadron Logs (Drivers) continue to move forward — driven, prepared and ready for whatever is lies ahead.

Last weekend, Sgt Richards and Sgt Ovington, represented 605 Sqn Reserves at the Shrewsbury Town FC - Military Match Day.

This annual event, hosted and organised by Shrewsbury Town FC Foundation and the Shropshire Armed Forces Covenant team, highlights the contribution of Armed Forces Veterans, as well as showcasing the commitment of our current serving members of the Armed Forces.

The match ball was impressively delivered by a Juno helicopter, from RAF Shawbury. It was a great opportunity for us to interact with fans and to showcase the opportunities available, in the RAF Reserves.
